VAR will kill the game ‘PROPOGANDA'

This propoganda needs to stop, yes there are minor issues but VAR itself has saved around 21 freaking goals half way to the season, saved countless unfair decision and MOST OF ALL WILL BECOME A KEY TOOL AGAINST CORRUPTION!!!!!!

Yes there are minor flaws and it will change the game but it will permanately change the game for the better! As the computers did to the mordern work force, stop being swayed by cave men mentality and see behind the propoganda VAR is one of the best thing that has ever happened to Prem if it had happened eariler there would have been many different results in past decade.

That's the funny thing. Half of me loves the perfect 1 mm decision and getting it factually/technically correct. The other half of me is leaning towards it spoiling the game and atmosphere when every decision is going to VAR, even when it's not a clear and obvious error.

The fact of the matter is they said it was only for clear and obvious errors. They never said it would be used to determine fractional offsides every time.

Offside is not subjective, it’s black and white, is the player offside or not, it’s a binary choice.

Therefore if the on field official rules it a certain way but VAR shows it was an incorrect call.. it is defacto clear and obvious upon using the VAR tech that it was the wrong call.

People used to accept the refs decisions no problems before VAR.

Why not just accept the refs decisions now with VAR?

As with the introduction of any new technology, VAR will be crude and error-prone to start off with. With successive iterations however it will improve and become more and more seamless.

In terms of the recent controversies with "armpit offsides" etc, the issue isn't so much VAR as it is the laws of the game. If you think being flagged offside because your armpit is 1 inch ahead of a defender, then take issue with the laws of the game, not VAR.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
VAR is meant to be reviewing clear and obvious errors though. When you have to start drawing lines and zooming in on still images for 4 minutes, would it not just be better to just give the benefit to the attacker?

No it wouldn't necessarily be better.

What's wrong with zooming in and drawing lines?

With time that should improve anyway. Its 6 months into the VAR era. In future it won't take 4 minutes.

Some of the reasons against VAR are poorly thought out, shortsighted and impracticable.

Why not just accept the decisions like you used to?

The problem is that you only find out whether it's clear and obvious, or extremely marginal, after you've reviewed it. The ref doesn't know that beforehand.

If the defender and attacker are moving in opposite directions at speed, then it can be difficult to judge whether an offside was marginal, or not, or not even an offside. In a split second 2 players may go from being level to being separated by a yard of space. How do we decide what to review?

IMO, as a rough rule of thumb, VAR could be used:
-automatically whenever there is a goal, penalty or red card
-at the ref's discretion if they don't feel they or their linesmen had enough visibility to make an accurate decision about something
-1-3 times a game by each team, tennis-style

Var is not killing the game and am glad the op made this article. People will not turn away from the game and I bet all those who say it will will.still be watching football next year.

Offside is black and white for me and if lines drawn properly it correctly identifies offside just like goal line tech. We just need to speed it up. I am sure the techies are writing some programs that will do that very soon.
