I actually hate movie remakes to be honest, so I was actually wondering which remakes surpassed the originals.
For me, only 4 remakes I feel I’ve enjoyed more than the original.
The Thing
The Fly
Oceans Eleven
3:10 to Yuma
I don’t actually think any others have even come close.
Can you think of any others or disagree with my choices?

Granted I've not seen It Part 2, but the first It is better than the TV movie. Apart from Curry's performance, everything is done better by the remake.

Part 2 is really good. Good humor, brilliant creature design.

Unpopular opinion - I quite liked the Planet of the Apes (2001) remake with Mark Wahlberg
Nowhere near the original, but an entertaining film with a cool ending

I agree. In fact, I preferred it to the newer apes films.

I think the thing that stands out the most to me is the original tv movie has stood the test of time in a way. At least by cementing a spot in my mind. The new films while enjoyable in its own way, probably wont hold up well. There is nothing in the film that pops out or that I can even recall being creepy or dark enough to get to me. The OG at least has a cheesy dream like effect that made it feel off and also Curry stealing the show.

Yeah I’d agree with that, but I imagine because the originals you saw when younger, right? Still very good, been years since I saw it and I’d love to watch it again the creature design in the new one is brilliant though, very demonic and evil.

Age may well have a lot to do with it. But then Im a pretty big fan of film and loads of films ive seen within the last decade have also made lasting impacts.

What film has made the most impact Icarium?

Recently? Surprisingly I'd have to say sci-fi and horror films have made the biggest impact.
Hereditary

Sorry really late to this:
Last night finished IT: Chapter 2. Sorry I though it was terrible. The 1st one was better but not by much. Too much humour and silly jump scares. There didn’t seem to be the feeling of friendship between the cast, especially the adult cast in Chapter 2. Derry also seemed so nice, always sunny, beautiful floodlights at night, it just seemed like a normal, peaceful town whereas the Derry in the 1990 series always seemed quite eerie.
I preferred the 1990 mini series with Tim Curry although I am aware it had its problems too.

I liked the new ITs, thought they were very good and some great effects, they made penny wise look properly frightening. Quite liked the humour in the 2nd, some funny one liners. The 90s series was brilliant though.

I thought the new actor did his best, they had some very good scenes with him in both films, however I didn't think they used his height very well, the actor is apparently 6 ft 3. I never felt in either movie he had that presence.
The humour in the new films started off funny and the 2nd films also had some good lines, but sometimes I felt they went too far with the humour and either it got juvenile or completely destroyed the tension being built.
There were some very good elements in these movies, but it just never worked for me.
