According to the expected goals people the expected points table should be:
1. Manchester City 57 points (+6.44)
2. Liverpool 52 points (-20.56)
3. Chelsea 47 points (+6.25)
4. Manchester United 45 points (+10.17)
5. Leicester 41 points (-7.21)
20. Newcastle 16 points (-14.08)

Expected Goals stat

I have never really paid much attention to the expected goal table but I did say last week that I at the very least expected the points gap between City and Liverpool to be down to single digits but for City to lead the table this season is a bit nonsense based on the games I have watched.
The xg table last season City finished with 9 points clear of liverpool which was a way better reflection as City were pretty exceptional especially at killing off games in the first half.
Their 2 games against Spurs pretty much describe Citys season in my opinion. Total domination but Spurs get 4 points.
What this table does prove is that
1. People who think City are significantly worse than other seasons dont have a clue as they are only marginally way off.If they keep the majority of their squad and the manager they will be challenging next season.
2. Liverpool's much malighned midfield is way better than people give them credit for. They have pretty much controlled games in which their defence has been poor this season and resulted in their many wins. From the games I have seen the liverpool defence hasnt been great at all but the midfielders keep them in it.
3. Citys attackers other than Aguero arent that special at all. Ive said it before that Sterling is a good story and I am glad he has turned his career but to believe that he is a top 5 player in the world the way the press go on is absolute nonsense. He has some great attributes that allow him to score bucket load of goals in a system that is great.
I actually feel the same about Salah this season who is significantly better than Sterling but when you watch both players go through on goal with a chance you give them a 50/50 chance. But you never feel that way about Messi and Ronaldo.

Based purely on statistics, City should’ve beaten Tottenham 3-0 yesterday, according to expected goals (xG).

I just read this statement on some website and I've never read a bigger load of crap. I'm not buying it. Spurs knew what to expect and played their game perfect. They deserve a pat on the back not to be told they should have lost 3-0.

There is a huge difference between letting the opposition have most of the ball and yourself failing to string 2-3 passes in a home game in front of your fans.
Case in point is how top class players like Son couldnt get into the game.
Spurs won as a consequence of Citys poor performance.

The way I see it Spurs are coming up against a team they know will dominate possession and create many chances. Its hard against such a team. If you are to win you need luck and a strategy like pragmatism or something close to that. Of course you won't be winning the xG.

Not entirely surprised tbh. City tend to always lead the pack with regards to this kind of stuff...the system is that elite.
One of the stattos was talking about how our opponents has missed the last 14 of the big chances against us...most of those being when the game is 0-0 or 1-0 to us. He also said that most of these shots were off target but then he also mentioned Alisson's form recently and how he's been saving almost all of the shots on target against us. Like City...the few chances we do concede more often than not results in a good chance for the opposition...it's just we've been keeping them out recently and City have been conceding.
Football eh.

Anyways I haven't cared to look at the website in the OP...but there's some Stattos on Twitter that you know don't spew out crap every chance they get.

So why didn't Spurs take advantage of City's awful year?

Agree with most of this. Our defence have been outstanding though. Gomez and VVD often left against two or three and still do the job. The full backs out of this world going forward and the majority of the time excellent in defence, although TAA does have his lapse, these are fewer and fewer as he gains the experience.
Don't believe Sterling isn't special, one bit. He's a world class wide forward who produces world class figures and he's still only 25. I mean he has 20 goals already this season. Although I would say that his form has dropped off recently. For me he has been over worked.
Exactly right about Salah. He has it all in his locked but sometimes his shooting is ridiculous. He will go through a period where he looks a natural born finisher, cold as ice and then he couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo for a few games. In those games he'll be trying so hard to score, nobody will receive a pass from him either. When he's on it and scoring, he's outstanding as he isn't forcing shots, he goes with instinct.
Xg's is crap.

So we have brilliant finishers and goalkeepers? That's essentially the result of that study....
