Best picture (and best director) at the Oscars π
Brilliant movie and absolutely deserves to piiiisss all over the other choices this year. Been a huge fan of South Korean cinema for a while. About time the mainstream started respecting it. Check out the director of Parasiteβs earlier classic βthe Hostβ. I liked the Irishman but hugely overrated and how the Lighthouse was overlooked for that was a massive slap in the face to actual originality in film. Joaquin imo deserved his Oscar π. Willem Defoe wasnβt even nominated for the Lighthouse but that was the performance of the year. And Adam Sandler should have been nominated too but this is the Oscars. A bit too conservative sometimes.
Anyone else love Parasite? Any of the other Oscar wins please/offend you?

I was an extra in an Oscar nominated film when I was at school.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Was it a depressing ‘mines closed down in the 80’s’ kitchen sink drama called something like ‘black hearts are mine’?

It was this - https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/welsh-film-went-mountains-snowdonia-15974507
I was brought up just down the road from where the title character is from.

Do you ever go into Pete's Eats ?

Metro. If I take a walk around Llanberis then I'll start or finish it there (or perhaps with a pint or two!). It's close to the lake and parking so a handy place. Big mugs of tea too!
Robb - it was a blink and you miss it appearance!

I adore walking around those parts.
As for those mugs of tea - wow, superb. I was only there a few weeks ago. Ended up having fish fingers, chips and beans.
First time I went was 1994. We were walking up Snowdon for the Roy Castle foundation. I don’t think it’s changed in those 25 years.

Metro. It's a stunning area! Living so close I don't think I truly appreciate it as it's on the doorstep and you do seem to get complacent about things like that. I will do more of the mountains over the spring/summer though.

Joker is basically all about character portrayal, and Pheonix's performance in that regard is superb. I found the final part of the film disappointing though - but then I'm not much of a fan of the superhero/villain universe.
Parasite felt a little bit out of control towards the end, but I found it much more interesting. Lots of different layers to the story and different genres coming together.

Watching 'Once upon a time in Hollywood' right now and so far i am pretty disappointed. Normally engrossed in Tarantino movies and the drawn out dialogue but thus far it isn't working for me that much.

I tried to watch Parasite and nearly finished one hour of it but in the end that kind of movie is just not for me. I was torturing myself because I'd read good things about it so I just facked it off in the end.
Once upon a time in Hollywood was arguably a worse movie. I struggled to finish it. Watched half and then chucked it in favour of something else. Took me a week to muster the courage to finish it. Worst Quentin movie ever.
The Irishman was excellent and far far better than both these movies. IMO.

on a flight to USA in a couple of months might catch up with some of these...seen the Irishman...was ok, - far too long, & Scorcese has done better

I loved the Irishman, wasn't too long for me and I don't agree with a lot of it's criticisms.

Absolutely delighted btw that Joaquin phoenix clean sweeped awards season, he deserved them all and deserved an oscar for the work he consistently puts in during his career. hes the best in the game right now alongside ldc. with that said i hope he never wins another thing again, even a raffle so that we dont have to hear another of his nonsensical and sanctimonious speeches as long as we live.

Yeah, wanted to see what the hoopla was about, gave it about a 7.5.
Not a patch on joker, once upon a time in Hollywood or the Irishman.

Who was the guy who recommended the job to the son and why did he do it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Min, because he left to study.
Watched Parasite yesterday, I knew it was about working class people moving in with elite, but didn't expect at all what was coming. Very good movie, enjoyed it properly. Birthday party was a shocker, ending was brilliant.
