Well if we canβt catch them, let us at least make them bloody work for the automatic places
I feel that gap is just that little too much for us to catch the top 2, so we need to ensure we get as many points as possible to make sure we keep our Playoff place at the very least
We all know anything can happen in this league, and they still could be caught, but it seems highly unlikely with games running out - all we can do is play our games and do the business for ourselves
Itβll be another tough game, but Boro are on a terrible run, and with our away performances as they are this season, the points are definitely there for the taking
As I say, we all know where we are and what we need to do, in order to get the job done
Iβm forever hopeful

MIDDLESBROUGH v FOREST - Match Thread

Beat Millwall on Friday (somehow) and Fulham lose to Brizzie and we will be third, how crazy is that, imagine if we had ANY consistency.

The rumour earlier was that Silva had an appendix problem, which may have needed an op, however, from what is being indicated he may not be out for that long.

I thought Bostock was fairly good when he came on. Diakhaby was woeful. I so want him to do well with us but he really is not showing much so far.

I have to be honest, I don't fancy us for Friday night against Millwall. I will be really happy if we get the win but I don't have the greatest of confidence.

One more stat before we close, Boro’ have now played 9 games under this ref (I am not blaming him for our performance tonight, for a change), and they have not lost any of them, so all in all looking for positives, at least we didn’t lose.

Have to say Worrall was definitely at fault for their 1st goal, and Brice was just unlucky with the 2nd
A Draw away, isn’t a bad result, would could have done with all 3 but we’ll played Forest for not giving up

I find our counter attacking so frustrating. We are so poor at counter attacks. I know occasionally we get one right but we get at least 2-3 a game and we always totally mess them up. I am not sure why we are considered a counter attacking team. We are not. We are just a very very hard to play against team and we have some individual quality and we never give up. Boro’s second goal is a good example of a decent counter attack. I guarantee in the same position we would have wasted the final ball.
I just wish we could actually pass in the final 3rd. I know part of the problem is we have so few players going forward that it means the passes need to be so precise. But they are so often really poor. Even simple balls that just need to played into space go wrong. We are just not that dangerous really. We seem to score either through tenacity or though individual brilliance.
We also lack a good playmaker. We are crying out for it. I know Silva usually plays that role and he does ok. But if we had someone who was a bit more dangerous, had a better killer ball and could score 8-10 a season we would be top 2 I think. Those players are hard to come by though.
It is what it is though. I would have taken this at the beginning of the season. Still in with a shout of promotion.

Agree with that Reds. To sum up it is our play in the final third, which is generally too imprecise and too slow which has cost us an automatic spot.
A fit Andy Reid playing as many games as Silva (who I like) might have got us there.
Whatever happens over the next six months Sabri (assuming he is still here in August) will need better backing in what could be a busy summer transfer market (More outs than ins - Deadwood out, top quality in)

Not sure we have money to spend in summer though. Accounts suggest we are just below FFP limits but that includes one very lean season. Last season we spent a lot and only some big sales have helped. Also if we don’t go up I suspect we’ll lose Lolley and maybe Cash which would be huge losses. Feel like we really need to go up this year. Was feeling ok about our chances until Silva got injured.
