Barca players took a 70% pay cut for four months, all of their own volition. Nobody told them to do this. In England, they are suggesting a 30% pay cut to players.
The PFA have asked players not to accept pay cuts individually (yeah, I know) and the clubs have planned a meeting to ask players to take only a 30% pay cut. United players have broken ranks and announced they are taking a 30% pay cut for one month.
If football resumes within the next four months, Barca players have already committed 70% of their wages for that period regardless. This money will be useful even in the months after football resumes. In Emgland on the other hand they can stop paying at the end of one month or extend the cut as and when required.
For me, 30% is peanuts, not literally but in the scheme of things. They can do more. There is the tax argument made by the PFA and say what you like but it makes sense. The pay cut should be done and the tax also paid IMO.
Players should be receiving 30% pay, not 30% pay cut until football resumes. The rest of the money to the NHS, pay tax as usual and support clubs that will face financial turmoil. Or what say you?
Keep it clean
Pay Cuts?

Players are happy to take a pay cut. What they are not happy is where this money is going to. Still not clear cut. Last thing they want to do is bail out some lower league club who have been poorly owned.
PFA and players are asking where is the money going.

Even worse would be if it made its way into a billionaires pocket. Should just be taxed, the insanely wealthy should be paying far more in times of crisis because they can most afford to. (Of course they should in general too)

Just fyi the spanish government passed legislation for businesses to cut wages by up to 70% due to the pandemic.
That’s why barca have done it. Because it’s fully legal to do so.

People act if taking a 30% pay cut should be possible by all players. But what if they live to their means? Why should a player get into financial trouble by taking a 30% pay cut? Who says they ALL have 30% disposable income? I cant take a 30% pay cut either, I wouldnt be able to pay my mortgage.

Amen to that. Shocked at the position that's being taken by the players but equally appalled by the clubs stance looking for government hand outs when there is literally billions swashing about for these top tier clubs. Surely the players could take £50k a month until normal business resumes. It's still more money than most people earn per year. Just shows how much greed there is in the world which is a crying shame.

oh wow
seriously.
do you know the average weekly wage of a premier league player? its about premier league players taking the cut.
thats is a terrible effort at wummery.
If you couldn't afford your mortgage btw after a 30% cut then your bank lent you too much money. just a thought. The reality is may people struggle to pay rent and we have nhs nurses having eviction notices due to landlords fearing corona in their property.
and you want to care about a footballer in a mansion thats either grossly and stupidly unnecessary or likely just rented for the 3 to 5 years he was going to be in the area anyway. He'll have 70k or the 100k he was on
The reality is Zaha could offer 50 properties to nhs staff in london. good on him. great deed. I think though he can therefore afford a 305 pay cut on top.

And then some MiTO, people are underestimating a footballers wealth. They're minted, simple as that. I hope our players start doing more than they've done up to now, the club have certainly not shone themselves in glory with their reprehensible behaviour.
