Titanic's departure from Southampton is only two days away, 108 years ago. Further crew members are hired for the voyage, a last coat of paint is added to the funnels, the Titanic is nearly complete and almost ready for the voyage ahead.
In command, Captain Edward Smith, the commodore of the White Star Line makes himself familiar with the ship. His presence aboard this crossing is intended as an honourable farewell.
With him, naval architect Thomas Andrews, the ship’s designer, aboard to fine-tune last-minute details. Finally, the man who had envisioned and willed this transatlantic trio into existence, J. Bruce Ismay, chairman of the White Star Line.
