Italy + Germany

Serie A teams will be able to start training on the 18th of next month. It only looks like it'll be a matter of weeks before Bundesliga kicks off again also.

Will the Premier League and Football League be looking over their shoulders thinking 'we can't cancel it now. Look what our European neighbours are doing' ?

Sky and BT love to push how mighty and great the EPL is. How it's the greatest league in the world, how you simply can't miss a game (even if it's Norwich away at Burnley) for any reason.

Assuming that all goes well in both Italian and German football, how could the FA justify cancelling the season? It would absolutely destroy their brand and legitimacy.

What do you think?

Based on the fact that we were always supposedly 2 weeks behind Italy then surely we have to be an additional 2 weeks behind in training.

A lot of German outlets reporting that they are too ambitious with the start date. Will be interesting to see what happens however I imagine that if the Bundesliga starts up and within a week or two someone tests positive for Corona it will prove the situation as an abject failure.

I read that if that happens it won't halt the season.

It has nothing to do with the power of the EPL and everything to do with health and safety of those involved.

Netherland cancelled their season as the Govt have banned public gatherings until September. 100 or so people running a football match would fall in to that category.

WHat the EPL and all stake holders will be able to do will depend on the Govt advice. No doubt they are lobbying hard to allow sport to restart, its in the interest of many to do so, but may be its not in the greater interest.

Not sure anyone can have that much certainty.

Agreed. I think personally we will be locked down until July and the sport coming back on TV will almost be Boris' compromise.

Dont think the FA nor the Premier league ever had any intention of cancelling/voiding this season.
With he likelyhood that Germany, Italy, Poland and possibly Spain will be resuming in the next 4 to 6 weeks, I would imagine the PL will be resuming a few weeks after that.

Let's not forget, it was the FA and Premier League who decided to stop playing before this governement had recommended that they do.

Spain, Italy and Germany I expect to start training shortly. Unlike the Dutch league, which people with no common sense keep comparing our league to, these leagues understand the need to resume as quickly as it is safe to do so.

We will follow suit. We have to. As for people saying no fans is pointless.... yeah it's only a case of football and clubs continuing to exist or not 😅

When you see something like this you see who loves football and who is blinded by tribalism and bias.
Clubs won't risk their assets dying, after quarantine games will resume with no fans, and it'll be until at least 2021 I think.

Dutch situation is so warped by the fact they've barely had a lock down. Also the fact most their teams won't lose a great deal compared to PL teams, as their money deal is so low.

The tinfoil hat brigade will hate it but it's the only course of action to save football, and fans (who cannot attend)
