Predicted Final Table from Reading Uni

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52507779

Interesting little article, personally what I find most interesting is that we came out on top in 54.8% of the predictions, which while still giving us a majority is still hardly running away with it, which when you look at the current table it's understandable.

Indeed, winning the league was only ever really seen as a bonus.

Leeds have been top after 11 matchdays and 6 of them came in the first 8 when the table isn't as established.

West Brom top after 23 matchdays.

However, a point advantage and West Brom still needing to go to Brentford no surprise we were most probable to win it.

Chance for auto promotion is significant.

Chances of promotion just under 90%. Interesting stat.
We would have tried our hardest though at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, we are Leeds after all & never do things the easy way.

true cayton, about the fact we never do things the easy way but this year was so different to our run ins of previous years. we were the form team and had a much easier schedule. if we would have beat fulham i think we would have walked to the title easy peasy.

Standard worst in years

We’d have walked promotion

I just don't see a scenario where we don't go up (if games are played). 7 points clear with such a favourable run in. We were on fire before the break too

Interesting prediction though considering the prediction was based on 10000 runs through the season so 5480 times we re champions and second 3510 so i'm guessing we managed to be third 1010 times.

I managed to find an old Stats game from 70's called Logacta used to be advertised on Shoot Magazine and applied those rules to complete the season with the dice randomiser that Logacta used based on league points and current form. It was the best way to stop me being biased.

In my single run through Leeds did win with 93 points and Fulham got second on 83 points.

However Forest 82 points grabbed 3rd by one goal difference from West Brom who took 5 defeats

Brentford and Swansea made my top 6

Its not Scientific but shows that to stop West Brom going up they needed to lose 5 times in 9 games and even one more draw would have promoted them.
