Wait a cotton-picking minute here. Those are abbreviations, not acronyms. I was going to bed when I posted that apology but my brain must have already been asleep.

To be fair the line is blurred.

Typically, 'abbreviation' would be used to refer to one word being shortened e.g.: CM for centimetre. An acronym is when you take the first letter of each word and put them together e.g.: PL for Premier League. You could say all acronyms are abbreviations, but not all abbreviations are acronyms.

An acronym is when the abbreviation taken from the first letters of a number of words is pronounced as a word on its own though, for example FIFA or UEFA.

"All acronyms are abbreviations but not all abbreviations are acronyms".
As in :
"Alma Cogan is dead but not all of the class of dead people are Alma Cogan". That helped me to understand "Modern Maths" when they first introduced that rubbish at school.
