Good morning.
ON THIS DAY
in 1988, sprinter Ben Johnson was sent home from the Seoul Olympic Games in disgrace. He was stripped of his 100m gold medal after testing positive for drugs.
Subsequently, he was banned from competing for two years and stripped of all the other world records and medals he held. He began racing again in January 1991, but never regained the form that had made him the fastest man in the world. In the 1992 Barcelona Olympics he did not even make the final of the 100m. In January 1993 he tested positive again for steroids at an indoor meeting in Montreal, Canada. A unanimous decision by the International Association of Athletics Federations banned him from competition for life.
I must admit he looked like he was on steroids, he looked so aggressive. This isn't uncommon, I know, when they are fired up for a race but their demeanour usually softens when the race is over. He never did.
So how prevalent do you think drugs are in athletics? Or in any sport? Do you always wonder if an athlete who seems to achieve the unachievable is on drugs?
in 1984, Avril Lavigne was born.
I can't say that I know much about her, it's not really my sort of music.
What are you listening to in the car or on the iPod at the moment?
We've got one of Snooty's punk CDs in the car.
Sorry, just a short one today.... off to the hospital for an appointment.
I was going to do a piece about Pilkington at Norwich but haven't got time. But I'm sure you've covered that already in previous threads. So, you know the drill, talk away about whatever you like....

I dont get how a sprinter can get proven guilty for taking performance enhancing drugs and then have a ban and be allowed to compete once it is over. The drugs help them build muscle and unless you can categorically prove that they have lost the muscle boost from the drugs they are always having a performance enhancement. Its one of the reasons Usain Bolt is so great, he is an entertainer but importantly he is totally clean.
Listening to either Rock Radio (now called a bland Real XS) or going over some Jonny Cash American Recordings albums in my car.
Pilks seems to be doing ok for a guy who is only just back from career threatening injury. Pelts is also becomming a fans favourite at Leicester it seems so good for them, nice to see we have for once had players that can go on and do something after Town, proves we bought quality. Plus if they keep doing well we will be in line for more staged money no doubt so win win!!!

Pelts does seemed to have settled in well and I knew he would, as he is a good footballer. We got lucky in the replacement we have un earthed in Jack Hunt too. Still a bit raw, but the scouts will come circling soon me thinks

Jack Hunt has so much potential and his pace will be the thing that attracts people. He still needs to improve his defensive positioning but he can develop that. His raw pace is a huge asset and he is never afraid to take people on. I can see him, if no nasty injuries, making it to the Premier League in a few years time.
