Relegation/Voiding

Keen to find out if the FA, as believed via Greg Clarke, are able to stop the bottom 6 EPL teams scrapping relegation? I have seen big media outlets report that Greg Clarke himself has intervened and told all EPL clubs that voiding the campaign and therefore cancelling relegation is not an option.

Can the FA do that or not? Do they have the jurisdiction?

Well it looks like it's either completed behind closed doors, current standings as final, or points per game to decide, now that null and void has been ruled out.

Yes but they are all utter horseshit.

Any half decent lawyer will be able to make an excellent case against the season starting with crowds and finishing without and if you throw neutral stadiums into the mix its even easier.

As for current standings or points per game again it'll get blown out of the water by virtue of easier run ins and more games at home than away to come for certain teams (Villa have 6 out of 10 at home).

Getting it restarted under the suggested conditions is just Sky/BT trying to flog a dead horse. It should either be finished as it started or null and voided.

If they can get it working behind closed doors in the correct venues then those worried about being relegated using neutral venues will be happier and it will be finished that way.

Thats certainly better than neutral grounds but I don't expect the 3 relegated teams to go quietly.

As I said in an earlier comment I can see a disproportionate number of positive tests at the bottom 6 clubs as we get closer to the restart date.

Why? They've been told the bottom three will go down, no matter what.

What use would it be to ruin the season and miss out on millions, and then still be relegated?

You think they would make up positive test results?

Because everything I've read puts the cost of relegation at a great deal more than the money the bottom 6 clubs will receive for playing out the season.

I see Brighton have set the ball rolling with 3 positive tests.

Well two of them were earlier in the pandemic.

A mate of mine lives/works in Germany and he was telling me yesterday that theres a tremendous amount of cynicism over there about Dynamo Dresdens recent positive results.

Don't rule anything out football is riddled with greed.

I don't agree with the idea that the season started with fans and needs to finish with fans to be credible. Fans are a luxury that teams have learnt to underappreciated. Ultimately it is football that dictates the success of a season and the bottom six have been poor at their jobs so far. Whether with fans or not it won't change the outcome of the season and they are using the situation to cheat there way out of relegation at the expense of 3 championship clubs who have performed well. If a portion of their team were GENUINELY infected and it impacted their ability to put teams out then I would understand. But don't use the BCD as an excuse to mask over the failure on the pitch.
