This is all hypothetical, but say our pubs open up by July 1st with a phased opening.
It's 1st August 2020 and FA Cup final day. The phased opening of pubs a month ago went smoothly, no second wave etc etc. Now at least 75% of all UK pubs are open again.
Wembley has a capacity of 90,000 which would usually be full on FA Cup final day.
What's the difference between allowing 90,000 fans inside the stadium? The same 90,000 fans will be congregating in pubs (alongside millions of others in the UK) to watch the same game. You can argue they won't as it'll be free to air on BBC, but the FA Cup final is always free to air on BBC or ITV anyway?
Thoughts?
What's the difference???

Might be worth playing the final at the Etihad.
They've had social distancing down to a tee since it opened.

Be a shorter safer journey for the trophy too

With regards to the op, what is the difference? What is the difference with the current set of rules where it’s not uncommon to be stood in a supermarket socially distanced by several people at once, but you can’t socially distance with more than one person from another household 🤷♂️

There seems to be growing evidence that outdoors vs indoors is quite key in the spread of the virus, so maybe the OP is onto something!

If the government change the rules and relax things, I'm sure when people start dying in numbers, it'll be shown to be those not using common sense as the main reason for it.

So it could potentially be ok to have millions of football fans congregate in pubs than 90,000 people in a stadium? Even though pubs are an easier breeding ground for the virus to spread and open stadiums aren't?
I think it's you who's thick pal.

Exactly. When this was happening in Feb/March time, scientists were saying you are far less likely to catch the virus in a stadium than in a pub. So why not allow exceptions to the rule in a few months time? It could even serve as a bit of a tester to see how many people went to the stadium and got infected etc. I am sure they could track 90,000 people by then on this new app that's coming out.

I can see your point but having 90k in a stadium won't stop millions from gathering at bars anyway.

Exactly. So why just not open the stadium then as well then?? The 90,000 would just go to the pub and have a higher chance of catching it, as per science.

Bars are not open and won't be for a while. And just because one thing could lead to infection doesn't mean others should be allowed too.
