before WWII Sunderland were considered one of the big 3 clubs in English football
and WWII is aprox half way in the history of the English Football League
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair Portsmouth were winning titles back then

If you want an order based on who had the most titles all time in order then this is it
Preston 2 1890
Sunderland 3 1895
Aston Villa 4 1899
Arsenal 7 1953
Liverpool 9 1976
Man Utd 19 2011
So Villa have spent the most time as the club with THE most titles surprisingly

No doubt some won't grasp this so Villa won a fourth then were first to win a 5th and 6th but Arsenal were first to win a 7th etc.

Can I ask one simple question. What does anything pre 2000 realistically have to do with who is the biggest club in 2020?

Come on, United had half the major trophies Liverpool had going into the 90s. Liverpool had won four European Cups to United's one, in the 60s.
++
No body outside the UK had heard of Liverpool FC until the Mid 1970s. Your history at the top table of football is that short.
Man United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, B. Munich, Milans
Bar the rest.
As even Bill Shankly said to the Liverpool owners when they asked him if he would like to manage the best club in the country (meaning LFC), Shanks replied, without hesitation, "Why Is Matt Busby packing it in?"
Why you scousers persist with your rewriting history nonsense, is pathetic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I'm not taking about the 70s. I'm taking about before United success in the 90s.
As I said, half the trophies and one European Cup to Liverpool's four. Everybody knew about Liverpool all over Europe going into the 90s considering they were the most successful club in the country and won the EC four times.
I'm afraid it's you trying to rewrite history.

Yeah I'm not taking about the 70s. I'm taking about before United success in the 90s.

But that included the 70s... and the 60s... and the 50s when United dominated under Sir Matt and again were the biggest Club out of England,.... Wolves were probably second. This was when LFC were a bno mark 2nd Division team which had won diddly squat.
I said no one abroad had heard of you until the mid 70s. Yes you started winning stuff then, but STILL United were always the biggest Club in the land. You know this though, don't you.
You ain't got a clue what you are fecking talking about, have you?

Of course it included it. Are you stupid? Football didn't stop before the mid 70s. Liverpool had two decades of domination, had double the trophy count and 4 European Cups to United's one, which they won in the 60s.
My comment was purely about the period entering into the 90s.
You're a bit thick aren't you?

Not at all. In fact I am incredibly well educated.
What is your excuse?
The 'period entering into the 90s' by definition goes back to time and memorial... which obviously covers the entire history of professional football.
Unless you think that possibly Liverpool are the biggest club in English football based on just 2 decades of success in the 70,s and 80,s. ? Liverpool haven't been football champs of England since 1990. yet you think that they are the still biggest Club in England today.

You are? Well that's good. In that case you'll probably want to read over the comments as you've made yourself look thick and once you've done that, you can revisit your last comment and it will really hit home how stupid youve made yourself look.
For the record, before you start, I'll tell you that I never said Liverpool are the biggest club. I clearly said United are the biggest club.
