Hard to argue with most of that.
BBC’s ultimate PL XI

Basically Kompany was a watered-down version of Big Sol... but that's still a great PL player.

Kompany was a B+ defender who gets treated like an A+ because he played in an era of a low quality PL CB pool

Low quality strikers surely? Our defensive record when Kompany played, particularly under Mancini, was incredible. That’s got sod all to do with what other defenders were like.

I think the bar was set so low for what a decent PL centre back was supposed to look like at the time that Kompany ended up becoming overrated because of how well he compared to most of his peers at the time.

Come on Joe, Kompany has games where it was clear he’d decided the opposition weren’t going to score that day. That defence under Mancini was tight, and Lescott wasn’t exactly a world class partner.

He's obviously on the WUM. Ignore him. I can't WUM when I'm drunk, whiskey is like truth serum to me.

And I get that to an extent. Given he was playing alongside Lescott, as had already been said, and our system at the time was also with attacking full backs, that suggests there was very poor attacking teams too given our defensive record though.
I do think a bit of it is down to him being initially a midfielder rather than a defender as well. Him at his best wasn’t a tackling or a physical defender as such, it was an interceptive one that was also the starting point of the attack. His passing was one of his best traits until his legs went.

Why would the bar be set low? Vidic, Ferdinand, Terry etc were just declining when VK started his ascendency. Watching City week in week out I felt assured when he was fit and the title in 12/13 was basically lost when he got injured. We were 5 points behind United, by the time he returned it was 12.

Here's a list of Cente backs to make the PFA team of the season from 2010 to 2015, excluding kompany
Richard Dunne
Thomas Vermalen
Nemanja Vidic
Fabricio Coloccini
Jan Vertonghen
Rio Ferdinand [32]
Gary Cahill [x2]
John Terry [34]
I dont think being arguably the best CB from that bunch (and I say arguably for a reason) can land you in the conversation for greatest ever PL CB

I don’t know how anyone could have Kompany above Terry. Terry was better than Kompany when he was past his best, at his best it’s not even close.

Probably motivated by a hefty amount of personal bias to be honest.

A supplier of ours bought me a whiskey set, Jamesons IPA, with two glasses with my name on it and cooling stones. I thought I'd have a go at it last night. Must say I prefer ice to the stones.
