Arteta has confirmed that our new defender William Saliba will extend his loan at Saint-Etienne so he can play in the French Cup final on July 24.
Anyone else think this is an unnecessary risk. Given our luck with injuries lately it would be just our luck for him to get injured.

It would be just our luck, but it gives him big game experience, and a send off from St Etienne. The alternative is for him to go 5 months without a game.

I'd be inclined to think giving him the chance to perform in a cup final is the right thing to do, but it's Arsenal, so obviously nervous it'll go wrong

Im sure he must have wanted to stay and finish the season. Wouldn't be best for his morale to just say no.

Bet there will be a few people at the Emirates praying on July 24th 🙏🤞🤣

Don't be ridiculous. This is following the spirit of the loan deal and it's giving him the chance to win a trophy with his childhood club.

Seems it is off because we said we wouldn't pay £2.5m for our player to play for them.

Don’t get it, surely they pay us to loan our player?

The €2.5m payment was apparently to incentivise Saint-Etienne to play him for a certain amount of games this season.
With Ligue 1 cancelled part way through, I guess that Salba didn't quite hit the target Arsenal had agreed with them?
Either way, seems a shame he won't get the chance to play in the Final for his boyhood club.
Hopefully an agreement can still be reached.
