16 Summers Ago....

Jose announced himself to the English media as 'a special one' whilst the rest of the footballing world watched on in a mix of awe and shock. The great Sir Alex Ferguson even remarked that he was playing catch up with Mourinho from day one, as he dominated the game domestically with Chelsea; before inspiring Inter and Real Madrid to heights they thought they'd never be able to reach again.

If 16 years ago was the start of a glorious marriage to the game, then yesterday really was the bitter divorce. A man who was once so elite at defensive coaching that even Messi would struggle against his sides, is now so dated that Sheffield United were made to look like the Barcelona of old.

An infamous Mourinho trait of old was his siege mentality. He would successfully use that to get not only his players onside, but his club's entire fanbase. As the game has evolved, so has his siege mentality. He still has it, but it's adapted. Now his siege mentality is him vs his own players. It happened at Real, Chelsea and United. Based on what was served up yesterday, it's already happened at Spurs.

Time has sent Jose an invoice i'm afraid and it is time for him to go. He is finished in the English game and is in danger of becoming a self parody of what he once was. I think it really is a shame to see what's happened to him, but he has to have some self-respect and call it a day. He will always go down as one of the greatest manager's of all time, but how high up he is on that list depends on when he decides to quit.

Mourinho has been on a steep decline since his last season at Chelsea. His peak was between 2004-2012, and it just started going downhill from there. Yesterday wasn’t something new, it was the norm for him.

he is now no longer able to cut it at the very top champions league level, his level now is the more sedate, mundane Thursday night Ropey league level at which he excels, or did so I am told, if that doesnt work out he could be looking for a championship side

He's hardly going to pack it in when chairmen still fancy his reputation to the tune of £15m a year. He holds all the cards - he can just get a new gig, phone it in and get paid whether he's sacked or not.

But yeah, he's yesterday's man. Those of us who have been paying attention over the past decade realised this before he was appointed and wondered what on earth Levy was thinking.

His legacy will be ruined though and he doesn't need the ££

Wasn't that the case after Chelsea part 2 and United though?

He sits on his stacks of cash for a year or two until everyone has forgotten, then he gradually starts raising his profile again by appearing on pundits benches until someone is desperate enough to throw more money at him

He won’t walk away - why would he?
Can rightly state it’s not his team or players, came on board midway thru a season to save a team sinking fast

No - he’s here for the long haul, sadly

Yesterday hurt, how can a team go from beating Madrid and Dortmund then get beat by Sheffield United?

I really feel sad when I think of Jose. He was once so great and now he's not.
