A lot of praise for Frank Lampard on Sky. They’re making it out like it’s a huge achievement that he got top 4.
Not on the wum or trying to knock Frankie Lamps here but for me 4th for Chelsea is about par.
3rd best squad and 4th best starting XI in the league imo.
They had a few new comers but it’s not like they went into the season with team full of kids.
I’m interested to hear Chelsea fan’s views on this. Have Frank overachieved, done what’s expected for even underachieved?

I agree, and to be fair I don't think we need to invest too heavily, a decent keeper alone will make a big difference. I feel sorry for Kepa but at times he has looked completely shot this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
from what i've seen kepa has had a statistically terrible season - in terms of shots saved, goals conceded vs expected goals etc - so whilst i'm sure you will all be dreaming of swapping him with oblak, it looks like you would gain an extra 5-10 points simply by spending £20-30m on a semi-decent keeper, a Heaton/Henderson/DDG (?!) level player.
which should be manageable, and if kepa is willing to take a pay cut - and recent newspaper reports suggest that he is - he should be easy enough to shift, albeit at a loss.

I don't know if you're being serious or not but I would quite agree with you - even if we had managed to get Butland from the mighty Stoke, we would have more points now. Add a half decent centre back to play next to Rudiger, and a left back who can tackle and we are not in bad shape.

It's not happening. All Hail Fat frank for managing the incredible feat of finishing above Lester City. Amazing achievement. Finishing above Lester City.
Lester furrrking City.
I mean look at their team. It's better than Guardiola's barcelona:
Schmeichal
Justin
Morgan
Evans
Albrighton
Choudhary
Ndidi
Tielemans
Thomas
Iheanacho
Vardy
I mean Schmeichal is basically as good as prime Buffon, Morgan and Evans a better partnership than Terry and Carvalho at their best. I Dunno who Justin or Thomas are but I'm sure they're the next Ronaldo and Messi. Ndidi, better than Makelele and Essien put together, Choudhury, I see the afterimage of Andres Iniesta when I watch him play and then you Have Jamie "Thierry Henry" Vardy up front with Kelechi "Didier Drogba" Iheanacho to him. What an attack that is.
How Lampard managed to finish above that team, I have no idea... I'm in awe of this achievement.

ha, i was being serious, we'd all love to be spending £100m on all our targets this summer - united and chelsea both - but even if FFP has been relaxed for a year the usual restrictions apply. and oddly enough i think DDG has been the definition of average for 2 seasons now - his xg are bang in line with actual goals conceded, and he tends to rank in the middle of PL GKs.
so whether henderson, or krul - or onana - would be a long-term solution for chelsea, i don't know, but if you're writing off kepa (and no one can wait too long for their GK to come good, it's too important a position) they would overall be instant upgrades.

Having looked back, you're asking if we really think we have overachieved. My answer is this -
Liverpool have overachieved - even if you expected them to win the league, they have been exceptional all season.
Man City - finished where expected by many but with the number of games lost and failing to compete with Liverpool- Underachieved.
Man Utd - despite a quite desperate first half of the season, managed to finish where they were predicted to finish.
Chelsea - Lost Hazard - that's a lot of goals and assists. Couldn't sign anybody. Pulisic has only started around half the games this season and has been really good in half of those but he's not Hazard... yet?? Lampard's first season - lot's of youngsters blooded.
Leicester - Overachieved. They unluckily got pipped by Chelsea and United but a good season.
Sheff Utd and Wolves - overachieved:
Spurs and Arsenal:
Chelsea's league position is better than predicted, so we have probably overachieved. However, this is Chelsea and in a normal season, it is the minimum that one would expect. Lampard has also implemented a much more attractive, possession based attacking system which our players will only become better at using. So, a good season which will be a really good season if we win the FA cup.

I can't argue with that either, I'm not sure I believe the Oblak talk if I'm honest but a decent keeper would, as you say, be an upgrade.
