Was not selling Cahill a mistake?

After leaking goals and the fact that there are only 8 games after Chelsea till jan. Which could see him leave for pennies. Should we have banked the money or spent it?

Without us knowing the specifics of the Tottenham and Arsenal deals, lets just trust our management to have done the right thing for once?

Sort of agree with Largehat, I would rather have sold in 2010 rather than this summer.

As for Lee and Holden, are you attempting to predicting the future again, Petrover?

Flippin'eck! You lot are full of the joys aren't you! FFS!

To quote an old friend of mine, "Moan, moan, moan, that’s what people do these days, especially you old people. If all you’re gonna do is sit around and moan, they should take your teeth away!"

We're only 2 points off the same fixtures as last season. We've got Holden coming back and Lee might be with us in the new year.

I'm all for giving opinions, but moaning for the sake of moaning about stuff in the past that we can't do anything about is an incredible waste of energy! I've also not missed the irony of me moaning about you lot moaning, but at least I'm doing it with a smile on my face!

Things could be worse, so always look on the bright side of live! la laa la la la la la!

I think we can only judge as and when he actually leaves the club. At that point we can measure the decision by the points we'll have accumulated and the fee (if anything) that is agreed. We'll all have our opinions then.

My concern is having to buy a replacement in January which will no doubt be costly. The combination of Wheater (I know he deserves time) and Knight fills me with absolute dread. Coupled by the fact they're currently flanked by Robinson and Steinsson spells out either a very long season ahead or a very expensive January window.

Ricketts back ASAP and an end to a long awaited talented left back, please.

There will be offers in January. Mark my words. Why would Tottenham want to wait until July? They know they won't get him if he is free to choose from a list.

We didn't sell Cahill so we couldn't spend the cash. Why bother asking what we should have done?

Problem is campo if it less than the £5m we paid for him then that is shocking business. I love the best sort of defence is attack attitude. You defend by calling me a moaner. How is posting the original question moaning? It's a debate and maybe I am wrong but that's what a forum is for. I know on the Bolton forum your not allowed an opinion that may be ever so slightly critical of our current situation. It makes me laugh that people are prepared to blindly promote this situation. Everyone can see the outlook of supposedly easier games plus the return of a key player. But for gods sake what teams fans post articles like 'all rosy in the bwfc garden' when their team are bottom of the league. Granted it is only sept but I go with what zat knight says in today's local rag about things not being good enough. He's right. How is it the situAtion that those in the know at bwfc see the problems yet those fans on here just can't or won't see it. If anyone thinks it gets much easier after Chelsea they are wrong. Stoke, everton can you see us beating them with our current play cause I can't.

As far as I know, nobody made any offers for Cahill that should have tempted Bolton to sell. I think they decided they would rather keep him for another season, rather than let him go for virtually what they paid for him. Perhaps the mistake was not getting him to sign a new contract 15 months ago, and selling him back then if he wouldn't sign.

He was never worth 17m+ anyway (except in a Man Citeh inflated transfer world), but it will be gutting if he goes for anything less than double what we paid for him ...but that, unfortunately, is exactly what's likely to happen ...

But honestly, is Gardner who we really want to see as our left back?

Would he genuinely deter teams from launching wave after wave of attacks down that side?
Robinson has been identified as a major weak-link in our team and a real target for most of our opponents since the semi-final fiasco against Stoke. Hence an incredible collapse of form and confidence.

The previous season it was Steinsson who seemed to be identified as the easy target and the best way to get balls into our box. I seem to remember many goals conceded when we were attacked down his side.

Sorry for seeming so negative but I think we have big problems right the way across the back. Without Holden's protection for the next few weeks I foresee an incredibly leaky defence and an expensive January window.
