DPL v Blackburn Rovers - Carabao Cup

Actually going to games is taken for granted by most football fans. Yet, in modern times there must be increasing numbers of us who follow from afar.

There are those who gravitate to top PL teams, probably looking down their noses at the local EFL side and judging by the team shirts you see around, a growing band of an even more superior breed who opt to associate themselves with top European clubs.

In the immediate future at least, locally-based Rovers fans will get to share the experience of the exiled supporter, but with the bonus to begin the season at least, of possibly getting Saturday matches streamed on line.

With 4 additions including Lokilo, the bench could well be fully complemented after all and Richards apart, most of the squad will be familiar with each other’s play. Even if new recruits were to arrive in time to be registered, it seems unlikely that they would be put on the field, unless they were the Wolves loanees from last season.

Blackburn’s form at the end of last season was up and down with some high-scoring matches and they hovered around the middle of the table and were thoroughly average. So, resuming at the same level, it seems likely that they will prove too strong for us, especially as they are at home.

But it will be a serious test; a heavy defeat will be a setback, but anything less should be beneficial in the preparation process.

I will go for a 3-1 home win, Okenabirhie with the goal.

Good news about Cameron John in permanently! Still time for Ennis to come on loan. Things are shaping up.

Some raised eyebrows re the Ed Williams signing. I think he might be the find of the season.

Let's be positive. 2-1 win for Doncaster. Whiteman with the first goal.

A new season, hope that everyone is OK.
Let's hope that everything gets better.

Blackburn Rovers 1-1 Rovers
Okenhabirhie to score.

I hope Whiteman's absence is nothing worse than the "niggle" the club has reported..

I'd missed that you had started the DPL, Donaldo, and you were close to getting it totally right. It seems that the streaming changes do not include overseas supporters, maybe because Carabao Cup games never were. I could only get the audio and it would not let me buy a match pass - weird!
From the audio it seemed that we did better in the second half, and I think it was not too bad a result especially as Whitemen was not playing.

My own optimism about live video streaming was misplaced. On accessing I Follow I got just the Blackburn sound commentary with exclusive focus - I could say bias - on the home team.

It reflects what you have come to expect from a third rate organisation like the EFL commissioning a service. You would have thought that in times like these they would have made an extra effort to IMPROVE the service rather than choose such a time to cheapen it.

The fact that they get away with it suggests too that the clubs fail badly in their duty to control their governing body.

When I tuned in after half time via the DRFC site the option of video came up, but I did not try to access it as it was then the 2nd half.

Whether it was there or not who knows? No information has been provided and the beginnings of yet another publicity cock-up loom.

Back to the game and I suppose the home commentators should be given credit for at least learning the DRFC players’ names, but constructive comment was in short supply. As always their goals were praised and ours came only as a result of sloppy play by them.

We must therefore await the visual highlights; having said that the description of their being “passive” used by the Blackburn commentators of the first half performance could well be apt. Indeed perhaps passive is better than sloppy!

Donaldo, I could only get the "home" audio. If I selected "away", there was no change! It seemed to be very biased, and I kept switching it off!

Interesting to see our promotion hopes shattered by Sky Bet: https://m.skybet.com/football/sky-bet-league-one/event/26220701. 15/1 to get promoted and 7/1 for relegation behind the obvious favourites plus Burton, Lincoln, Bristol Rovers and Gillingham in the latest odds.

Everything considered, the performance at Blackburn was fairly encouraging. We can expect improvement with greater fitness and cohesion in time and in a sense coming through such a stiff test with some credit could be beneficial.
