Here's a situation were we see how weird football fans are.
Ozil is saying he loves the club, does not want to leave even if he isn't being picked, says he would sign for us again in a heartbeat etc..and the fans just go on ( and ON ) about his wages and hate him!
Auba,on the other hand,is REFUSING to sign, holding us to ransom ( we can only assume it's for more money) and all the fans love him! Where is the logic?
Genuine question, but if it makes the haters blood boil, all the more fun!

if you're falling for Ozil's PR then any logic will be lost on you! Auba's done more for the club in two and half seasons than Ozil's done in 7 and he'll be earning significantly less than 350k with his new contract. If Auba left I wouldn't hate on him for it as the team hasn't been at his level whereas no club wants to go near Ozil so he doesn't have a choice but to suck up to the gullible fans who believe the stuff he tweets

Auba is great and I wouldn't hate him if he left iether. My point is about how one player can be viewed so differently. Players not signing and holding up other transfer deals etc get slated, especialy if they are at other clubs. As for Ozil, the truth is us fans are just guessing what the true picture is,we have no clue really! Every time his name gets mentioned though that 350k comes up,which isn't really relevant. Arsenal offered him it,he kept his side by being available to play. And despite all the bs talked,he helped us win trophies and set many assist records. Maybe the last few managers style didnt suit his play, but that's hardly his fault|? Bottom line is this - if Ozil was English, and on half the wages, the hate would be absent.

Sorry but thats rubbish. Arsenals 3 most celebrated players for the last two decades have been Henry, Vieira and Bergkamp. Were they English?

There's a big difference between Ozil's situation and Auba's. Ozil failed to perform year in year out for every year of the 5 year, 350k a week contract and is now refusing to leave despite being told he is not wanted at the club. Trying to keep himself associated with the Arsenal name another season. And don't get it twisted, Ozil may have contributed to some FA Cup wins. But it is his laziness, refusal to defend and general disgusting apathy toward the game. Which is the biggest single contributor to us falling out of contention for CL spots and plummeting down the table.

Auba is just holding out to see if we buy in the quality needed for him to win something or at least play CL football once more. After having been a golden boot winner and close contender back to back seasons. Literally worked his ass off whilst Ozil sat/stood/ran about uselessly, scratching his. Ozil deserves every bit of fan hatred levelled his way, where Auba deserves respect, patience and understanding from AFC fans. HE has served admirably (even teaching youngsters too). He has every right to want a CL last hurrah. He will only go if he feels he can't get there with this team. It won't be his fault that the owner and board are tightwad s who refuse to put some money into the club (despite having billions) and buy the players we need. It'll be THEIRS!

horses for courses. Any manager who expects Ozil to press hard and track back, has not watched him play. Ozil is a luxury player. If the team is playing well and set up for him, he will flourish. If it is not, he will look the worst player on the pitch. It's not that he doesn't run (he always covers a lot of ground), he just runs at one pace and with little purpose.

I for one, would be willing to bet on him finishing in the top 3-5 players for assists this season if he is given a consistent run behind Auba, Pepe, Laca, Willian, Saka, Martinelli (pick your combo), if he has a strong base behind him.

So far the only defence of Ozil I have read in this thread is that he would flourish in a different system. If that is the case why hasn't Ozil moved on loan elsewhere? Arsenal have been willing to part pay his wages for 3 years now. But he has refused to move.

People can make all the excuses they want regarding his playing style. The truth is he doesn't want to play football. There is no love for the game and Ozil has taken Arsenal for a ride. Shame on Wenger for not being cognoscente of that and frankly neglecting his job for the last 5 years of his tenure.

I don't think it was willful neglect, think he was just past it, getting a little bit senile and left behind by the modern game.

However, for someone with his level of intelligence he should have realised this sooner and either done more to change the bad things that had crept into the club and his management or had a succession plan prepared and left sooner.

Trouble is people just tend to get more and more stubborn as they get older.

Even bigger problem was there was nobody to question him, his decisions or performance as a manager, particularly for his last decade as our manager, we were basically his plaything by that point - we have had some very weak and useless board members who have let the club down in more ways than one.
