Social gathering of over 6 people

Banned

By now people know that the government has no clue what they’re doing

How do they plan to convince people and enforce it

Also, i do feel when someone was allowed to 'test their eyes' whilst driving in the height of the lockdown, that well and truly pushed people over the edge, thinking wtf, i'm not listening to those double standards coming from those guy!

He should have been sacked. No question.

Wouldn't really say wearing a mask, a you only have to wear one in shops and even then I've seen plenty without as it's not really enforceable.

The tracing one makes more sense but then I guess the argument is you don't have to go to a pub or restaurant.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Agreed and I get the counter arguments.

Essentially this thing is impacting our everyday lives and norms so it does affect our civil liberties.

But we have a collective responsibility to do the right things. What muddies everything is the constant shifting of measures; the quite incredible contradiction in them and the way they are announced and in places used as political point scoring.

Where did the help the NHS, flatten the curve and then manage to live with this go? I’m not suggesting things have to change and we have to adapt but the manner across all governments is both dangerous and ridiculous in equal measure.

What exactly is the plan now? Nobody knows. It’s just reaction after reaction. And how long do the authorities think the public will continue to live this way as everything else dies in front of us and causes far more significant health issues down the line which is already happening?

Maybe is someone or some “experts” sat down and then explained it to everyone in clear and concise terms they’re be a better reaction. This will just lead to more disobedience and ignoring of the measures.

Then what? Send in the army?

Pretty much my point, i believe that if you provide people with the statistics and explain the problem clearly, the vast majority will comply without force or impinging on their rights.

Arresting people for sitting on a bench 50m from the nearest person, spying on people walking alone with drones and/or forcing people into poverty is something different entirely. We haven't seen the last of things like that especially given they were done with blessing.

I think you'll see the odd news report it simply as a PR exercise - let the public see someone punished and they are more likely to comply.

But why should anyone have been arrested for sitting on a bench 50m from anyone else? I mean for all we know it could have been someone who been working in a hospital who uses that spot as a mental release.

I got and understood the need for measures back then, but things like that above were just ridiculous. If someone would have asked me in January how deadly a pandemic would have to be for people to be as willing as they collectively were to give up such basic things like sitting on a park bench, taking a walk to a Lake District or even just a random drive I'd have said at least 10x more deadly overall and around 50x more deadly for those under 60. People not only accepted such ridiculous extremes, they helped implement it and even in some cases wanted things took even further (our daily exercise took away). Make no mistake, potentially doctorial like personalities in governments will be rubbing their hands with glee.

Now just to be clear, I had no problem with the restrictions in the sense of cutting social activity, that was clearly needed but the above stuff was just too much and unnecessary. If someone needed to sit on a bench or take a drive for the benefit of their mental health, what on earth was the problem?

Trouble is that too many people are not here to actually discuss things - only to shout their opinion and insult anyone who disagrees.

What I don't understand is why these restrictions are coming back. The whole point of lockdown was to avoid overrunning the NHS but deaths and hospital admissions are still the lowest they've been...

This.
Something else that the media continually choose to ignore
----------------------------------------------------------------------

At the moment, yes. That is due to a lot of younger people testing positive. We're following the same pattern as Europe though and the "second wave" started in the same way. Now there are more hospitalisations and deaths as it spreads to more susceptible people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So why don't those susceptible people shield whilst the rest of us go out and live our lives again?

Fair point. I don’t think you can really classify it as a pandemic anymore currently as it stands it’s more an endemic. It can’t be a pandemic with so many random symptoms and unclear symptoms and 95% of people who test positive are asymptomatic.

Feel like the “long term COVID” is getting slightly exaggerated now as well not disputing some people do suffer but it could of been numerous reasons, naturally, fatigue from the lockdown mentally and physically and the people that just unwittingly have become lazy through the lockdown. Must admit I’ve been thankful not to have had COVID knowingly but the amount of other things I’ve had during it, teeth ache, ear infections, fatigue, various aching muscles, headaches once a week, feeling sick. Never had any of that crap apart from once or twice a year when in normal routine / pre lockdown. So a lot of this has definitely been caused purely from the lockdown and limited activity mentally and physically In my opinion

Even government have admitted young people are at a very low risk by trying to push the save your granny motto

I feel like it’s become very OTT measures now and some of these conspiracy nuts are starting to actually look like not all that loony. Agreed with most things in March/April when we didn’t know much about it but we then do all the stuff we should of done in March/April after the bird has flown (mandatory masks, air travel bridges etc)

Air travel is still the biggest spread, would of been interesting if they just shut it down worldwide for 3-4 months to see how low the transmission would actually be now. 55% of the positive tests at the moment are from People returning from abroad

Maybe it's going on holiday that causes it?

Maybe it's just that the kind of people who go on holiday are more likely to get it.
