Pretty much everyone reporting he will join Villa for £20M.
Very unhappy with this BS news. His form may have been a flash in the pan but he performed at a much higher level than Leno has ever performed for us since joining. Selling Martinez makes us a weaker team. At the age of just 28, he could have given us 10 more years of quality service if he continued building on his great form since coming in to the team. Selling him makes no sense.
Just HOW BAD is our financial situation, when we are worried about losing our players at cut price values to the likes of Villa and Wolves?
Emi is leaving...

If this is confirmed then I think it is clear that selling Emi was a playing decision. And Arteta does not fancy Leno either. Raya is the long term replacement for Leno. In this situation I would have sold Leno first and then Emi. But looking at the market I can understand there maybe no takers for Leno so he gets an extra year to prove himself.
You have to respect Arteta in this situation. He has earned it.

Nah, you're trying to read way too much into this tbh.
If Arteta thought Emi was the better keeper, he'd have put Leno on the bench, whether there's buyers for him or not.
Otherwise if it was merely a case of wanting to raise money to invest in other areas, why are we looking to spend most of what was raised in exactly the same position?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If money was tha main issue then why spend it all on Raya?

btw Lex my point he doesn't fancy Leno or Emi. And its a matter of getting rid of both by next season. We had an offer for Emi so he went first. Leno has a season to prove himself.

Sounds like a question of which poison tastes better. Is this really the thought process within Arsenal FC.?Where the hell is Arteta in all of this?

Arteta has been quite open about putting every player on notice. Reputation is not going to earn you selection. So Leno has to prove himself and not make mistakes that were obvious last season. I don't think thats unreasonable. In fact I love this ruthlessness that we never had under Wenger.

The links to the Icelandic keeper could turn out to be a bluff of course.

Jenius,
Not trying to beat this to death, however, your comment: "So Leno has to prove himself and not make mistakes that were obvious last season', is hardly the way for any Team to be going into the new season, especially when we are tajking about a goalkeeper. Hopefully things work out and that this does not become an "I told you so" moment for the many who have doubts about Leno!

I have the same doubts about Leno and wish we had kept Emi instead. But you have to trust in Arteta. He hasn't been wrong so far. I think he has earned the right to make a mistake or two and be forgiven.
Maybe thats why they want to into the season with a good no.2 ready to step in. If thats not Raya, they may have another target we haven't heard off.

Aye let’s trust the club hierarchy that have led us to a 4th consecutive Europa League campaign and the lofty heights of 8th. Who are we to question them, they clearly know best.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
of course you can question them, but the fact your crying about a back up goal keeper, who was at Reading last year, being sold is a bit weird. And your talking pre Arteta, Pre Edu, before the internal system changes. this year is a whole different ball game, come back to me at the end of this year with your BS and see if it is still relevent.

Wasn't wrong about Arteta not fancying Martinez or Leno.
Lost count of how many mistakes Arteta keeps on repeating.
