Will we sign anybody ....

Obviously we're in need of a centre back and a right winger, but I can't see us splashing out on either. I think if we do sign someone it'll be right at the end of the window, trying to get them on the cheap - the purse strings have definitely tightened. As for who, I don't believe we have single targets in mind; I get the impression we have our options open looking for the best deal. So although we undoubtedly have preferences, that won't stop us walking away and looking at someone else if the price isn't right.

It's difficult to call exactly who. It seems that Fofana has publicly expressed a desire to move, but on the other hand we're dealing with Claude Puel, who'll undoubtedly be telling the money men behind the scenes that he doesn't want to be losing his highly-rated player to his ex-club. As for a right winger, I hope we're all the more cautious. We don't want to end up with a £35m Demarai Gray, otherwise there's no progress there. I hope we're only looking at players we're convinced are better, and not just someone to make up the numbers. I'd certainly be happy with Dwight McNeil, but David Brooks I think it borderline. And that's before we get onto the rumoured, crazy £50m price tag.

I think we’re set on Fofana and he’s set on us. If he can’t force a move I think we’ll go for a loan and go back in Jan. When the player comes out in such strong terms the end is inevitable, it’s just when.

With regards to a winger, my reading of the speculation is we want Brooks, but Bournemouth want too much. McNeil is our second choice and I’d be disappointed if we end up with no business here. Both are worth a large gamble to be honest.

Aside from that, let’s just panic and buy a load of french wingers for £5m at the end of the window and see how it goes!!!
