Even under Ranieri, I don't think I have ever witnessed so much change, week in and week out, to a teams formation and its style of play, as I have during Lampard's managerial tenure at Chelsea..
Much of it I get the reason why, but it can't get on for ever, it hurts the team and I truly hope things will stabilise once all players are available.
Today's match was a microcosm of Frank's history of change. Badly let down by the majority of his players in the first half, he made a really good tactical call going to 4 3 3 and got us back to 3-2 and the momentum was clearly with us.CHO was relishing life on the left and had just scored a great goal
So what did Frank do after we had scored the 2nd goal? You guessed it.......change change change.
I actually think bringing on Giroud was the right call, but not at the expense of a successful 4-3-3 system and moving CHO into a deeper role.
The 4-3-3 system had given us back control of the game.It should have been a straight swap Giroud for Tammy. Yes, I know that Tammy got the equaliser, but that was in spite of us going to 3 at the back, not because of it!
We lost all our momentum adapting from 4-3-3 to three at the back and I think it cost us the 3 points today!
It was an impulsive decision from Frank and I hope he reflects on it. I urge him to think back to Monaco and Claudio....I certainly had flashbacks of that infamous night as he made that change to a back three.

I think we must wait till all players are available. I can understand why he didn't take Alonso off before half time, because he would have meant changing the system. He made the tactical change at HT and it was a very good one.
I was just so disappointed that he undid that tactical change when there was no apparent reason to do so.

There had been frustration with Frank constantly changing things but then I think there are lots of genuine headaches to this side to which there a no right answers. There are so many different factors in play that I don’t think there’s any one set team or system the majority of fans unanimously want - so no wonder Lampard can’t keep everyone happy with selections. Even today he showed some sense of continuity by keeping Alonso and AC in, but that is also maligned..there’s no one way of keeping everyone happy.
When you consider:
Azpi vs James
All our CBs are basically no better than each other
Alonso and Emerson being different types of terrible
Kante and Kovacic should be able to work on paper but doesn’t in real life. Kante in theory should be one of our first names on team-sheet.
Mount’s importance to pressing/defending from front
Fitting in Havertz, with Ziyech and Pulisic still to come back
Werner, whether he’s better up top on own, or with a partner, or is it worth playing him on left
Tammy vs Giroud
As said..I don’t think there’s one clear answer.

Reflecting on it I think it was plain & simply a rush of blood moment, possibly regretted it soon as he did it.
It wasn't just the fact it broke the momentum at the most critical point in the match, but it would've left us in such a vulnerable position even if it worked, defending a draw/lead with CHO playing as a WB? If it had been the second change that's a bit more understandable, still would've been the wrong move in the moment but at least allowed the capacity to adjust back if it worked.
He wound up getting the jammiest result with it possible. Road the hits & scoring the equalizer with zero time for West Brom to respond

Agree part of the issue is no one knows who our best players are because they're so inconsistent, or what formation fits them all together, especially with these injury problems.
But today at 3-2 it felt like we had indeed managed to find a combo that was working, which is probably worth trying again in the future.
The whole point of changing things up is in the hope of fixing something when it's not working. Which has been the justification for changing the starting lineups.
But for a while today, what we already had was working!

Chelsea have some first rate players, but strangely decided to give the job of managing them, to a third rate manager.
Until that changes, Chelsea ain't winning 5h1t in terms of major honours.

Good points but it didn't cost us all 3 points. You get 1 point for a draw so it cost us 2 points.

I've not been at all impressed by Lampard this season. Werner is a striker, not a winger. Havertz plays 10, behind the striker, not deep and not on the wings. CHO is a winger and quite decent, he's not a wing back and had absolutely no reason to be played as one today. We ended the game with Giroud, Abraham, Werner, Havertz and Mount on the pitch and didn't put enough balls in the box until the 85th minute. We hold a high line, despite having slow defenders. You can't tell me that Rudiger is worse than the defenders playing. And why wait till half time to take off Alonso and replace him with ... anybody really? And, our most effective attacker was Reece James until he took the space away from him by putting CHO in front of him and then, for some reason which only he knows, playing him as a centre back.
BLOOODY AWFUL MANAGEMENT!!!!

Reece james was puting cross after cross on a plate but the only striker we have that can finish them is giroud. Werner best position is attacking from the left, he is not a natural striker-he said that himself. havertz and werner are just now realising that no matter how low any team in the premier is they can hurt you if you make mistakes, we made mistakes.
Am i the only one thinking that we are missing a trick by not playing Azpi as a defender.

in fairness he put in a right mixed bag of crosses, some excellent and some utterly woeful. I don't mind that though, i would prefer 3 excellent crosses and 7 woeful ones rather than no excellent crosses at all.
