Chief Executive of Portsmouth FC Mark Catlin says the club is suffering losses of £750,000 a month, and the government should step in as they're the ones who are stopping fans from returning to stadiums. Football League requested £250m 'bailout' from Premier League a few days ago.
Last week Boris Johnson told parliament grassroots sports clubs are the heart and soul of communities across the country. Britain's theatres, galleries and music venues received a £1.57 billion in July - some people will ask why all non football grassroots sports clubs (especially athletics, cricket and rugby) didn't receive minimum £100 million bailout?

Should EPL bail out lower league clubs?

Rubbish Sandy, the government only have taxpayers money, football is awash with money, when players are getting ridiculous wages let football sort out their problems they made them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not the Prem`s task in life to bail out other clubs, no matter how much money they have. I assume you earn more money than some people you know. Are you going to bail them out, just because you earn more?

Well being a committed socialist I’d say yes, HOWEVER why is football being singled out and held to a different standard? Are the Hedge Fund’s and investment banks helping small businesses? Are Amazon helping Argos? Is Richard Branson, Mike Ashley or Tim Martin helping ANYBODY?

The Prem relies on the lower leagues and grassroots football. There is no Pre without them, unless they break away and form a new competition.
IMO, the Prem must bail them out, not the government.

Football clubs are generally run by business men, its their business. The level of losses involved should question whether the businesses are viable or sustainable before simply demanding taxpayer money to keep them going.
Now if government intervention could apply regulations that depended on the business becoming sustainable, such as through wage caps limit wages to turnover % then its a different conversation, but that can't or won't happen.
The only other option is a case by case bailout depending on viability, rather than a blanket open chequebook.

The Government are the ones shutting down football, why should Prem clubs bail out the Government.

And its not the government shutting down football, is that's tiny global pandemic that is being a little inconvenient for football...

In my view, no, not without some concessions the other way.
Genuine coincidence - I've just written a similar article on my club's board.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What concessions?
And would your viewpoint still be the same had you not been promoted last season? Genuine question as your wage bill and the losses you'd be making would probably have put you near the top of the endangered clubs list.

Rubbish, the Prem could manage very well, and it does, without lower league football and grassroots football. I get the sentimental stuff, but the bottom line is, most normal working people will be the same boat as lower league clubs, but they won`t have anybody to bail them out, and pay their mortgages etc. It may not be what you want to hear, but the world has changed now, and you cannot just prop up clubs if they cannot afford to run themselves.

This is of course the technically correct answer.
But is football really just a business?
Not to me. And I hope not to others.

Nah it is the Government, they are happy to keep pubs open for people to crowd in and watch football, people to crowd onto public transport to go to work, but not allow a few supporters to come into smaller clubs. Entirely down to the Government.

100%, why let people congregate inside a pub, but not in the open-air of a stadium?
The whole shebang is ludicrous. The government is jumping about like they have no clue,....... oh wait.
