Walcotts Value

The papers keep saying lil Walcott is being tracked by Italian clubs, but how much is he actually worth?

I and many others rate him very highly, but opposing fans like to put him down because he was bigged up as the next big thing since 16. So its hard to live up to the hype. However he has deffinately improved, and he has become an integral part of our squad.

So if he was to leave (ignoring the fact he would have a year left on his contract) how much would he be worth, baring in mind he is English which would near double his actual worth. It would be silly to sell to Italian clubs who wouldn't pay as much as English clubs.

Other English players:

Downing - 20M
Henderson - 20M
Carroll - 35M
Wright Philips - 21M
Ashley Young - 16M

Bare in mind he is only 22 i think a reasonable estimate would be around 30M.

What do you guys think?

Also take a look at this interesting article i found, the Walcott stats are further down the page: http://www.7amkickoff.com/2011/hitting-the-bar-%E2%80%93-who-creates-the-most-goals-arsenal%E2%80%99s-robin-van-persie/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+7amkickoff+%287amkickoff%29

But stats miss the assist to the assist don't they?
Or just the assist to a useless striker who misses.
--------
y not just credit the GK with the assist as they usually start the move with a lump upfield

Stop hating on stats! Stats are amazing!

And I guess it would depend on their moods. Nasri can be much better, but he is not living up to what he can be right now

As I previously stated any amount of stats can add weight to an opinion but it doesn’t take a genius to work out that Nasri is an all round better player than Theo.

Had Nasri created 50 chances for his team mates and only 4 were converted, he would still only have 4 assists to his name so stats while maybe backing up a point of view are not always the best measurement.

Theo is also likely to score more goals than Nasri as he is deployed in a more advanced role.

Take Iniesta for example, one of the best midfielders in the world scores a handful of goals (at best) each year. As Theo has scored more does that make him better than Iniesta?

Who is this Lillian Walcott? Theo's sister? His mum? No relation?

I don't understand.

@Stuart Pearce

How many real chances did Theo create that were unconverted in comparison to Nasri?

I have absolutely no idea. I frankly do not care. My point (as per above) remains.

What is your point?

Going on stats, Jon Stead was the Premiership's finest striker and Steve Kean is the most successful manager against Liverpool...

Walcott is certainly more valuable than Nasri, to the same degree Gary Cahill is more expensive than most good defenders, Andy Carroll is the eighth most expensive transfer in football history. The English player syndrome is obscene, and I'm really glad that most of our foreign youngsters qualify for homegrown status so we're not scrabbling around checking passports before talent (I'm looking at you Henderson, not so much you Jones).

Yeah, I actually agree with the OP here, it doesn't matter that Bale tore that Inter Milan defense apart, or that Nasri scored some incredible goals and technically is much more accomplished than Walcott, the fact is that over the course of a 90 minute game Walcott is much more likely than the other two to create a goal directly.

I agree that technically Walcott is not as good as the other two players, but his pace and his ability to get into goal-scoring positions is invaluable for creating goals for the team.

Man Utd do not have any central midfielders capable of unpicking defenses on a regular basis by playing through balls or driving forwards. Indeed I would aruge that their central midfield is the worst in last year's top six, but their wingers and strikers are so effective it doesn't matter, they still create far more chances per game than their opponents.

To win games you don't need the best players technically or the best players at keeping possession etc... you need the best players at scoring and the best players at defending, and Man Utd's teams are a testiment to that fact, often playing very poorly for large periods of the season but still triumphing by virtue of picking up "undeserved" wins.

When they go forward, they get players in the box and put in crosses that are hard to deal with, and like Mourinho's Chelsea they partially rely on creating dangerous situations rather than trying to pick apart a defense like Barca or Arsenal would do. It's not always pretty, but winning games is what counts, and not perceptions of how "good" everyone is.
