I know a lot of you have a lot to say about the signings, the board and the manager, but let's back what he have now. It is a very young squad, and we have improved in defence, midfield and now attack.
Cavani will give a lot of leadership and teach our players a thing or two, his movement off the ball is one of the best. He will hopefully chip in with 10-15 goals this season, and give a good break to Martial when needed. Not to mention his hold up play and link up play is good.
Telles will improve us down the left, no doubt about it. I can see him and Rashford building up a good relationship down the left and he gives us another dimension in attack. Can see Cavani being on the end of a lot of crosses from Telles.
Van De Beek looks like a very astute singing, who can do a bit of everything in midfield.
Yes our CB positions are a worry, but we had the 3rd best defence in the league last year, we can easily fix up. Maguire needs to be dropped but we all know he won't be.
The youngsters we have signed seem very promising, especially Traore, I have heard and seen very good things about him, maybe a January boost from him is what we need?
Let's see what happens, it's not all doom and gloom. We have also bought a lot of good other youngsters, in time to win the league in 2025
Time to back to players

Fair comments in the OP. The only thing I would suggest is to not read too much in the statistic of how god our defence was last year.
Watching our defence last year should have told all of us how poor it really was which is so evident right now.
There was never a time last season where I felt we didn’t look like conceding a goal. Even in games we comfortably won.

Not too dissimilar to Van Gaal's second season in that respect. De Gea was brilliant then and I think we probably bored some opponents into attacking lethargy, but defensively we weren't as strong as the GA column suggested.

Yep, good article. We need to give the new players a chance, and the coaching staff a chance with the new players
I’d just question your comment about Telles and Rashford.
Firstly, Telles gives the ball away *a lot*. Marauding runs and long range cannonballs you’re going to get. Nice intricate passing moves around the edge of the box, well, we’ll see but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Secondly, Rashford is going to have to do a whole lot more defensively if Telles is left to play his natural game from LB. Or Matic is going to have even more work to do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought he was better attacking wise and his link up play would be better but obviously not. Shaw and Rashford had built up a good relationship ok the left but I’m hoping Telles may take it to another level
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, he has attacking potency. But it’s more of the raw pace and power side than it is about interplay.

Indeed Clockwork.
We all use statistics to back up our arguments when it suits us. I am guilty of it myself.
Bit I am always aware statistics don’t depict the whole story.
And last years defence stats were very misleading. I often pointed out AWB’s lack of positional awareness. Every man and his dog could see how poor at the back Lindelof is and we have all known for years that DDG has a weak command of his box.

At least Maguire and Shaw are dependable

Signing Cavani doesn’t make any sense, we got rid of Lukaku who’s a similar player only to sign someone who’s 5 years older and more injury prone probably on a higher salary. So much more this new and improved transfer strategy.

i'd love cavani to come in and teach our other players something about striking - a la zlatan - but does he even speak english? i saw him try to do so on one youtube video and get laughed at, and i'm guessing he hasn't spent the last 7 months learning the language.
and i get the whole idea of youngsters learning from an experienced player, but can't our young strikers learn from Ole instead? zlatan came under jose, we now have a manager who was a top striker for over a decade, can't he teach them? i get that there is a difference between being told what to do and being shown it, but i do think this aspect tends to be overblown a bit (how much have lingard/james learned from mata? how much has mctominay learned from matic? or bailly from maguire?)

Don Draper it’s complete BS that’s what is. What did rashford and martial learn from Zlatan who was still in his prime btw and the season before had a prime cavani playing left wing. We now have the injured old declining version and people acting like he will be some saviour
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who's acting like he's going to be a saviour? I've seen people saying he might chip in with eight goals and provides a different option/cover for Martial.
