United ground out a useful point against an Aberdeen side who huffed and puffed but didn't find a way through a surprisingly resilient United rear guard.
First and foremost I'll acknowledge that we had the best chance of the game, and how Logan Chalmers missed it after doing all the hard work I don't know. It was a great counter attack and it could have won us the game.
But we wouldn't have deserved it.
Once again we set up with the same team and somehow expected things to be different. We played the horrendous and unimaginative 532 again. Our forwards were isolated again (Shanklands 40 yard strike at goal in the last few minutes is an indicator of how annoyed he is at his lack of opportunities). Our midfield was anonymous again. I don't really see what it is we're trying to do to win games. We're basically just filling up the central areas and hoping the other team doesn't score.
On the plus side changes were forced on us and we looked instantly better. Two of the diddies in midfield (Butcher and Pawlett) were withdrawn, we changed to four at the back and suddenly we looked like we were there to engage in a game of football. We had Powers - not a fantastic player - SHOWING FOR THE BALL while playing in the deep role. We had Logan Chalmers ACTUALLY TRYING TO GET INVOLVED. These are minor miracles. I hope the manager recognises the difference because these are things that Butcher and Pawlett actively avoided doing throughout. A word for Harkes - I do think he could be a decent player but he was horrendous on Saturday.
Benji in the goal made a series of good stops and he was deservedly man of the match.
I'll take the point but we have so much room for improvement. McNulty got a run out and it'll be interesting to see how he links up with Shanks. I'm really looking forward to our new midfielder getting involved and hopefully that's sooner rather than later.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Competition for places is what gets good performances from players. Harkes, Butcher and Pawlett are awful and that's being kind. Get Neilson and Powers in the centre of a four man midfield.
Bolton should be on the right of midfield. If we want a right wingback we should use Smith or Freeman. Kyle Knoyle was a good right back but never got a game until it was to late.
Managers of DUFC try to be clever with their signings and formations. Go out to win games from the off with players in their natural position. Simple.
They all have the degree from Largs on how to **** off their own support with bizarre signings, formations and interviews.I've spent zero money watching them this season. Listening to games is bad enough.
Kevin McNaughton was nearly sent to sleep and I cannae blame him.

Here's a quiz about lower league teams. I got 26/30 and ran out of time:

Could you give us some clues? We don't really follow lower league football.

On another note, see they’ve completely panned the notion once again of allowing fans back.
Just not up for discussion yet hundreds can sit in a plane for a few hours and cinemas etc whilst not at the same numbers can also sit inside closed premises.
Logic at its finest.

It's absolute nonsense not to allow limited numbers of fans back into the ground.

With 30% we'd have pretty much our normal crowd anyway, just spaced out a bit more. In my bit though there are a lot of old people so I would probably go in a different stand if they turn up.
