I don't see why Trent needs to move into midfield just because he is capable of hitting excellent passes. His work at RB going forward is invaluable to the side and he wracks up tonnes of assists for a full back every year, not many full backs can boast the talent and quality that he does in that position and any that are in the same bracket would cost probably over £50m with the current market.
I don't really feel the need to change Trent's position when other players could be signed in that position. Trent is arguably the best RB in world football over the last couple of seasons, why not keep it that way and then sign the necessary players in midfield when the likes of Milner retire and when players such as Wijnaldum for example may move on.

I won't say no to Lamptey if Trent goes into midfield. Next season Wij will be gone and maybe Milner. Like Robbing said Fab is a CB now for us so midfield vacancies will be there for the taking next season.
We probably will shift Keita out too.

I suspect he wants to play in midfield. I think he'd get just as many assists and lots more goals. Gerrard could have been a world class right back.

Real shame this isn't working out.

I aren't disagreeing and say it wouldn't work, but why weaken that clear strength of the team which is a key component to how Liverpool attack when other players could be signed in these areas potentially that would be good replacements.
For instance, Fabinho could be moved back into midfield with the arrival of somebody like Upamecano and I also like the look of Szoboszlai at Salzburg, he looks a real prospect and maybe over the 12-18 months where the likes of Milner, Wijnaldum and maybe Keita move on, other players could be signed as well. Fabian Ruiz at Napoli for instance would make a great addition with his technical ability in midfield and ability to pick passes and I think he would suit the Wijnaldum role really well personally.

If everyone was fit I'd still have Fabinho start at CB with VVD now we have Thiago. Said that pre season.

my opinions would be
a) trent is a great RB option. Lets not rush to make him a loess effective midfield player. that said there could be an opening right now given the current situation and when (i think its when not if) wijaldum goes then theres certainly a gap
b) Fabinho is a no 6, we don't have another and thiago just isn't it. he's done well a couple times at CB and could play Rb but he's done really well at no 6. henderson needs to realise he's not getting any younger and to go back here and make it work lol.
Examples here:
Alisson
Williams Fabinho VVD Robertson
TAA Henderson Thiago
if you just drop gomez into that for this year it would be interesting to see if it would work i suppose.
I still say this is by far the best option now.
Alisson
TAA Gomez VVD Robertson
Henderson Fabinho Thiago
c) yeah keita is boned. i cant see a midfield with both thiago and keita.
Naby is a dribbler, not really shown the vision of a thiago and sadly can't stay fit.
d) I do not see williams being anwhere near the level taa is at. so this move is moot right now. simply put neco is a hard worker and a bit of a dribbler being a failed RW (all RBS are after all) but I just don't see the quality of ball being there. Taa was patiently brought on as he has such delivery but he was weaker at the back than gomez. We stuck with him. The issue is williams is quite raw and poor defensively and doesn't have the end product so he needs to work hard on it and GRAB the chances that come.
Gomez won't be filling in at RB with VVD out so williams has a great chance in CL games now. he has to show more than jones did.
e) I note not one person mentioned jones and i've not done. Last night he was pitiful. he was poor coming on v villa and he was really poor v arsenal in league cup. He needs to buck up the ideas big time.
I don't see him getting too many chances if his manager cant trust he will give some performance.
I would almost have him on the loan list in January. it does feel like a 3 or 4 month spell playing week in week out would knock more into him.
Naby, windy, henderson, milner, thiago, ox (if he ever resurfaces) is 6 players for 3 slots and really jones only suits lw or lcm.
