In what must be a massive shock to everyone, United participated in a snorefest of a game that had little action, with United creating next to nothing throughout.

This is despite the fact we lined up with three strikers - Shankland, McNulty and Clark. Sadly we also lined up with a back five and a midfield that, despite being changed due to injuries to Butcher and Pawlett, failed to do anything productive.

I really don't know what to say anymore. I understand that the manager is trying to build a defensive foundation but it's sacrificing all semblance of an attacking threat. We offer nothing going forward and we're absolutely awful to watch. And it feels like it's getting worse rather than getting better.

I appreciate he has very few wide options (that should have been addressed in the summer) but he needs to change the shape. It's a necessity. If the fans were still in the grounds that team would be getting booed off every week because they don't look like they're trying to win, only trying to avoid defeat. And that's mostly due to the shape of the team.

I'm getting pretty exasperated by it all to be honest and I'm genuinely not looking forward to watching the next game because it feels like a punishment. Normally I'd say Saturday's game with Ross County is a winnable game given their recent form but that would suggest we'll try to win.

Anyway, Mon the Terrors I suppose.

Not that we have car theft here, at all.

Ivan, Im not so sure you can blame only your manager for this. I've watched St Johnstone a lot and they love to play with 10 men behind the ball. Maybe your tactics added to things but I'm sure it would have been a turgid game despite United's formation.

It's been a theme of our performances of late I'm afraid to say. It's a combination of the shape of the team and poor players at his disposal.

I suppose one of the problems is that we're sixth in the table in our first year back. Were there fans, they'd be exasperated at the actual performances but compared the the rest of the league the results have been wholly acceptable.
A point away at St. Johnstone is a decent result in isolation. And everything is in isolation at the moment.

It's all very strange. If we start to slide down the table however there will be more of an uproar. How long can United continue to be rank and stay in the top six?

Didn't watch or listen to the game. A well thought out plan, I'd say.

It’s really hard going just now. Make us hard to beat, fine - but we’re going matches without a shot on target. Mellon seems to be leaning towards shoehorning players into the system he wants, rather than setting up the system to suit the best players - it’s disappointing because at the start of the season we celebrated him not doing that! That said, a point away from home - you’ll take that. Some big matches coming up!
