Wolves v Crystal Palace preview [LIVE]

Date: Friday 30th October
Kick off: 20.00
Venue: Molineux

Live @ https://www.ja606.co.uk/articles/viewLiveArticle/427248

On Friday Wolves welcome Crystal Palace to Molineux.

With both teams on 10 points having each won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of their previous games, form-wise there is nothing to choose between them.

Palace come into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over bottom of the league Fulham whilst Wolves recorded a 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

When the two sides met last season, the game at Selhurst Park finished all square at 1-1. The behind closed doors meeting at Molineux in July resulted in a 2-0 win for Wolves with goals from Jonny and Daniel Podence.

Hopefully, the Wolves fans will have seen the last of midfielder Romain Saiss being employed as a wing back, a situation which has left them woefully weak in attack on the left side of the park. With 2 recognised left sided wing backs in his squad (Marcal and Ait-Nouri) there seems to be no reason for Nuno to persist with this strategy.

Roy Hodgson described his team’s performance at Craven Cottage as “Near perfect" which seems to be pushing it a bit as the hosts enjoyed 64% possession, hit the woodwork twice, and scored a goal after having a man sent off.

Nuno registered his disappointment at the 1-1 result against the Magpies stating, once again, that his side need to be more clinical in front of goal. However, no matter how many times he has made the remark Wolves remain the slowest starters in the league having now failed to score in the first half of games 58 times since their return to the top flight.

It's comments like this from DJ that makes my blood boil Gem:-

"Before COVID those not going to the game had the choice of not watching the game or finding an illegal stream. I suspect the majority of those complaining now are the ones not used to paying to watch games"

He's fortunate enough to live near Molineux, hence he once called himself DJ Molineux. I and others cannot get to games now and have to rely on TV coverage.

With regard to him posting "points of interest", I'm sure we could all find drivel to put on here, but that would deflect from the main topic of the article.

Him and I go way back to the old BBC 606 website, so things will never change mate.

Nuno: "It starts with being organised, being compact, not conceding. Then you think about scoring . . ."

Pretty much what we all knew. Fully understandable to be cautious and not want to concede early. However, I do think we have offensive players that we could use dramatically very early on.

I suppose you pays yer money and make yer choice - don't concede early or score early - both preferably.

Anyone that didn't get that Nuno is a defensive safety first manager by this point never will.

I do think wulfrun it should be clear to anyone that has followed us the last three seasons what to expect from Nuno by now. I don’t envisage any great change in approach which is why I asked the question whether those not happy with what they see would like to see us change manager.

Personally having watched us play lower level football for most of the last 40 years I am more than happy to see us competing with the best teams in the country and to see us play some memorably sparkling football at times.

I do think the criticism of our play is often unjustified. Like on Sunday when we had over 60% possession and 16 shots to the opposition 5 and Newcastle scored with there only shot of the second half. There wasn’t much wrong with what we did on the day.

I just think those unhappy with how we play are going to remain unhappy cause I can’t see it changing much under this manager

Sixteen shots but barely any that actually threatened anything. People were criticising Leeds the week before saying they didn't really threaten but they threatened far more than we did on Sunday.

Last four games we have scored three goals, two of which were fortunate to say the least with the big deflection from a poor shot being one against Leeds and poor keeping against Newcastle.

A few rumours about Cutrone returning to the club but it is unclear what the loan stipulations were for us mere fans, obligation or otherwise, amount of appearances and so on.

Cutrone got a rare start for Fiorentina this week. Missed two sitters and was taken off after an hour. They have an option to buy but highly unlikely they will take that up. The option becomes an obligation if he plays a certain number of games but he just isn’t going to play very often so that isn’t a factor. So unless Fiorentina pass the loan on to another interested club he will come back to Wolves at the end of the loan. His career going down the scrap heap as things stand after he was quite highly rated as a Milan youngster
