TV show recommendations

Just finished a couple of series’ recently and both left me stunned at how good they were.

The first (and hear me out) was the Australian female prison show Wentworth. For many years I shunned it thinking it was just another rote show derivative of things like OITB and Prison Break but it’s genuinely gripping and very much it’s own beast. Trust me, it’s as addictive as TV can get and ticks every box of what you want from a TV show - heart, compelling storylines that don’t treat you like an idiot and a real love of the characters with a palpable tension that never lets up. I had to physically stop myself from googling to see who lived and died as I was that invested.

The second is Gangs of London. There’s only one series out (and I have exhausted my entire library of hyperbole above) but it’s every bit as compelling as Game of Thrones and there’s one episode halfway through the series that is as tense as any movie you’ll see.

Check them both out. They have the Robb seal of approval ™️

Anyone know how far they've got with the filming of the last season of Better Call Saul? I'm willing to be patient about the release date, but over the last season I got increasingly anxious that Jonathan Banks (Mike) might not make it to the end of the show as he looks ever more decrepit. There's no way they could do it without completing his character arc. And in my view it's one of the finest shows ever made.

I'm looking forward to Fargo season 4 hitting a platform I subscribe to. Also highly recommend Atlanta - has anyone seen that?

I've started watching Mad Men, looks a bit outdated. Do I persist with it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
God no. One of the most boring shows I’ve ever watched. I persisted for 5 episodes - due to constant nagging from the Mrs - only to decide enough was enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lol I have reached 5 episodes too and so far its been pretty tedious. Time for a new show. Animal Kingdom it is after recommendations on here

Watching Mad Men myself and it definitely does get better, but it's not a show that's ever going to have you on the edge of your seat.

It's a good watch for an episode or two a week and that's about it really.

This and give "Hell on wheels" a go...one that surprised me was "The Queens Gambit",the attention to detail is amazing,it'll clean up when they're handing out the gongs.

They could not maintain it in the 2nd season for me.

I prefer Netflix Umbrella Academy.

Yeah for a prequel series Mike really looks like he could just keel over at any point. Shame as BCS has been fantastic building up to where it is now. I think 1 more really good series could tie it up and link it to BB perfectly, although there is enough they could do to span more series if needed (and actors ages permitting).

Gangs of London started was overall a bit meh, but had some absolute top notch moments that have been noted on here already.

Ozark, what an end to the last series. Can't wait for more.

I've just finished Narcos Mexico, which I enjoyed and at times preferred to Narcos.

For fans of Vikings & The Last Kingdom you have to check out Barbarians on Netflix. Season one aired recently. If you're into that sort of thing it's based on the life of Arminius & Thusnelda leading up to the betrayal and massacre of Varus' three legions in the Teutoberg in AD9. Obviously takes some nice liberties as is their right, but then so did HBO's Rome, which I enjoyed immensely and still shake my head at the fact that it was cancelled despite being a ratings success because HBO cannot manage a budget (see writing a CGI wolf out of Game of Thrones because they "had to choose between the dragon or the dire wolf".
