International break thread #612057
But what would your managerial style be? Although there’s obviously an apparent heterogeneity in different manager’s styles, it is rarely talked about WHY they have their styles, why they believe it gives them the best chance to win games. So thought i’d put it to the floor, the laypersons view of what type of manager they’d be and why. Of course it depends on what team you’ve got but still, most managers have an overarching approach to management regardless of their team. Maybe if easier could think how you’d approach management to the team you support.
Lots of different facets to managerial styles. Obviously tactics. Prioritise winning or style? Low block or pressing high? Favoured formation? Play out from back or hoof?
But then also player management. You gunna be strict or lenient? Favour experience or youth? If a player messes up, hairdryer treatment or an arm round their back?
Or if anyone actually manages teams, even school teams, interested to hear real life applications of your managerial style.

I like cloughie's style, I have a bit of his attitude and persona.
I would though make sure that who ever played against my team would be ended up slumped back on the changing room benches after the game regardless of result, talking about sore ankles and how ****ed they are instead of checking accumulators and messaging women they wanna hook up with.
Kinda like my team Leeds. Regardless of the result, you are going to have to work hard for it.

It certainly wouldn't be to play sideways across our own byline and invite UNNECESSARY pressure like Ole the genius seems to be obsessed with

I'd want to be the kind of manager who is rigidly doctrinal and takes the attitude that it's no good winning games by compromising on the purity of my tactical vision and only communicated to my players in aphorisms but regularly gave them individual formation diagrams, which you could only tell which way up they should be viewed because I'd scribbled Gramsci quotations at the bottom as footnotes, and I'd smoke Gauloises and wear turtleneck sweaters and alienate everyone at the club.
So very much like my ja606 persona really.

And how would you implement a managerial style to ensure that?

Pick the best players for their respective position.
As for "style". I suppose I could ask them to all wear a Ziggy Stardust greasepaint flash on their faces.
