Don’t mind giving him another contract but that should not stop us deviating from what I assume was a plan to replace Silva next summer with a high profile signing. Someone who can bring anything close to what Silva has brought but is younger. Some names banded about recently: Giminez and Alaba. Also wonder whether Lucas Hernandez would be realistic too.

In that scenario by all means keep Silva but he can be a rotation/partner for a new signing. He’s been great so far but we still need to build sustainably.

If he stays then also for the love of God glory Tomori go on loan for some gametime. Still not happy the guy had decent loans available in top 5 leagues this season and it looks like the club gave him reassurances he would play and that he should stay. And now he’s fifth choice CB. What’s the point lol

Yes a real shame about tomori, all I can assume is that he/the club thought rudiger was out of the door in the summer and he would battle for 3rd/4th spot

Could have been a whole lot worse with Kepa or Caballero in goal. Already seen the mistakes against West Brom, with the latter behind him.

Mendy behind him speaking French and being a demonstratively better presence for the backline is huge.
Mendy comfortably our player of the season thus far, to my mind.

I would wait until next-year before exploring the option of triggering the extension clause, more games under the belt thus more of a determining sample size next year.

Mistakes plural? Silva has made one mistake this year letting a pass run under his boot that’s it.
