There have been several occasions in the past when you feel that Mr Levy has passed up the chance to strike while the iron is hot and make a big transfer, particularly in January.
There have been times when our stock has been high and our position very promising and we just need that little bit of extra quality to really give us the best chance of success.
I say this is one of those moments. We have a very complete and well balanced squad but if there is one position that needs reinforcement its CB.
Toby - Still very decent but aging.
Dier - Sound and a leader.
Sanchez - OK sometimes, but hasnt progressed and still prone to error. Does not instil confidence in who he plays with.
Rodon - OK debut and some potential to work with.
Tanganga - Jose sees him more as a RB apparently, but he's done will at RB and CB when he's been selected. Who really knows how he well develop.
If we look beyond this season then Toby will likely go
Right now Jose does not trust Sanchez, who only plays in Europa as Rodon is ineligible. I would not blame Jose for trying to off load Sanchez and with the player keen to keep his international place, a loan could work initially.
SO Levy, can you bite the bullet and get us a top class CB, so we have New CB, Toby and Dier covering those 2 positions through the rest of the season and plenty of youthful backup.
It's a position we need to renew in the summer anyway, so lets do it now, when we have a chance to push on, during a crazy shortened season when anything can happen. Its a risk. It may cost £10m more than a summer deal but it could really cement our chances of success within any of the 4 comps we are competing in!
Mr Levy

17 non homegrown players we have registered in the Europa league, with Rodon, Gazzaniga and Gedson all missing out. We definitely need to shift atleast 2 of this lot within the next 2 windows and bring in some homegrown options

He'll probably go back to Benfica in January, he's the 26th man in the squad which is never gonna see him get much game time

In terms of strengthening, I'm not sure throwing money at it works. We did that, got in Sanchez for £42 million and now he's barely 4th choice.

I'm not sure I follow. I mean, obviously chucking big money at unproven youngsters is risky but we have to buy to improve pretty much anywhere on the pitch. Rodon might come good but could equally be another Foyth.
It's just a matter of picking the right player. Skriniar for example presents much less of a risk than Sanchez did.

Don't agree with that Sandy. Devonshire is right, we're weakest at the back. Even Neville and Carragher said as much last night. If anything is going to stop us from winning this league it's our defence. We're not conceding at the moment but who does with 6 at the back (if you include PEH and Sissoko dropping in). Mourinho is playing these tactics precisely because he doesn't really have a top class defence.

I think Rodon will come good and I kind of prefer that style of signing. Young, hungry and something to prove plus he actually likes to defend. With Rodon, Toby (back in 2 weeks), Dier, Sanchez and Tanganga, there's no chance we're gonna buy more. Let's improve what we have. See how we fair in December and make a judgement in Jan.

I don`t take a lot of notice of Neville or Caragher, they are both so anti Spurs, and will always find something negative to say about Spurs.
The defence is not nearly as bad as everybody makes out. I am not exactly sure, but I would wager in the past 12 months under Mourinho, Spurs have never conceeded more than three goals in a match in nearly 60 games. And then only four or five times have they conceeded three goals. You don`t go that many games conceeding so few goals if the defence is that weak. Spurs very rarely concede more than one goal a game now.

Oh and you cannot say Spurs have not played the best sides yet. They have played United, Chelsea and City, and only conceeded one goal. Whilst scoring eight at the other end.
I think sometimes our fans listen to the media to much, instead of just looking at FACTS.

Since the West Ham game we have kept 6 clean sheets in 9 games, conceding just 3 goals.
José is a top coach.
A settled back 5 with PEH (and Sissoko) in front, should help whoever slots in to replace Toby, be that Rodon, Sanchez, Tanganga or Davies.
José will know the players he wants, be that at CB or any other position and his fanboy, Levy, will hopefully oblige

Why would Toby go?
He signed a new contract last December

My bad. I thought he signed a 1 year extension but it was actually a 3 year deal

Have to agree with Sandy, Jose system of low block suits our CBs. Its not that big a problem as long as we don't play a high line.
I would like to focus on a Sissoko upgrade or someone as powerful as Sissoko on our bench. Winks cannot replace Sissoko or Hojbjerg.

This actually makes the 3 conceded against West Ham all the more painful
