Hello all.
So...we all know what we need right? If we could get ONE player in come January, we need a creative AM to play in front of Partey and Elneny. if we can see that, we would think our board and coaching staff can see that too. With a good structure, we would ASSUME a player has been identified and negotiations are being done now so that come Jan 1st, that AM arrives at Arsenal.
However, this is Arsenal. I have a feeling no negotiations will start until January 20th. We will then attempt to penny pinch instead of getting what we need. If said player does NOT have a release clause we can trigger like with Partey, I can see the other team getting upset and refusing to sell to us. We will then be told that it's hard to bring players in during the Jan window and to trust the process until the summer.
We will then finish 8th or 9th.
Ideally, we bring in an AM and a right back and sell Bellerin. I would also love to shift some of the players who are near the end of their contracts even for minor fees or mutual cancelation of contracts if possible. (Sokratis and Mustafi and in a fantasy world, Ozil if we are not going to play him) If we could shift Chambers and AMN (who is not playing either) for some cash, that would be a great window.

There are a lot of obstacles to us signing in January.
The players you mention who will be free in the summer can negotiate deals in January. That gives them the power, and means it is unlikely a better offer will arrive from their point of view.
Mutual cancelation would mean paying them 6 months wages in one hit, plus what will probably be massive bonuses such as loyalty. Would hit our transfer funds.
Another issue is our squad size. We already have 2 players outside the squad in Ozil and Sokratis. To add another would be foolish. Obviously if Mari is fit there is the chance of Mustafi being dropped out.
However, one rumour - Szoboszlai - makes sense as he is only 20 years old and so wouldn't have to be named in the 25 man squad. That is why he makes a lot of sense for January - plus his rumoured £25m release clause. Shame it seems as if there will be a lot of competition.
