Peter Alliss was to golf like Bill McClaren was to rugby, Sid Waddell to darts, Richie Benaud to cricket, Dan Maskell to tennis etc. - all outstanding commentators and irreplaceable. Peter's voice and knowledge of golf will be missed quite a lot by thousands of people - up there amongst the sporting greats of commentary.

brilliant on the bbc. stopped watching golf coverage on there when he retired from commentary

He hadn't retired Phenom. Was due to retire after next year's Open.
Thought he suddenly sounded a lot older at the Masters recently.
As others have said, one of the greats.
