So this level playing field thing then.

Under the rules the EU want, would subsidies be needed if a UK product met EU standards but the UK minimum standards were "lower" ? So let's say that all cars had to have at least 6 wheels, but in the UK that wasn't a legal requirement, would tariffs apply to UK 6 wheeled cars ?

Also, would the EU be able to require materials/labour sourced in the EU as a required standard ?

If the standards are not the same, EU and UK should decide how much benefit the other side have when maintaining the lower standard, the tariffs will be decided based on that. It should work both way whichever side decide to put tariffs on.

At the end of the day, I think it's all the show of Boris Johnson, pretending playing some hard ball. A deal will likely to be done at the last minute. We see if he can sell the deal to the like of ERG MPs. Labour will support any deal other than no deal, you can't blame No deal on Remainers.

It's so obvious that's not the case though. You've said some sensible and informative things on here, but how anyone can objectively form that opinion is beyond belief.

Its a complete shambles and in 4 years I have yet to meet a pro Brexiteer who can offer any sort of reasoned argument beyond puerile Daily Mail headlines. The truth is whatever happens from the 1st of January will begin the slow and stealthy repair job where we will slowly align ourselves to the EU bit by bit until we are more or less fully back in because that is the only thing that makes sense

This is spot on, which is why I believe there will be a deal. EU proposal: UK stay close to the EU, then separate gradually on whatever things are different. Uk proposal: UK out of EU straight away, then gradually merging things together whatever the standard can be met. Even Boris can't be that mad.

You can believe whatever you want. We'll see in a few weeks anyway. My view is he needs some drama to sell the deal to his own MPs and the nation. Anyone would choose any deal over no deal, so he needs to make it obvious that it is between his deal or no deal.

You can believe what you want of course, but believing it doesn't make it correct, and it's absolutely clear imo that the UK team is (now) doing a brilliant job of avoiding being pummelled into subjugation. The lack of willingness to have an independent arbitration mechanism and the insistence on EU access to British waters shows that the EU intends to use UK as a vassal state, and that simply can not be allowed. Obviously Johnson desperately hopes to get a reasonable deal done. Cudos to his lead negotiator who sems to be doing 100 times the job of that prkic Davies who thought it was just a case of swanning up and having a G&T.

You can see I always say it's my view. I think we can end this in peaceful note. Clearly we will not agree with each other about Brexit principal, which the same can be said about UK and EU at the moment. We might have another conversation in few weeks time
