Stats from Last Night

We had 77% possession, 17 attempts to their 8, 11 on target to their 2 and 785 completed passes to their 289.

That is absolute domination and I thought their MOTM was Lloris which tells you a lot.

Possession statistics are determined by the amount of passes by a team divided by the total passes. Not the ‘time in possession’

Welsh Xavi - xG isn’t perfect and needs some post-processing after usually in my opinion. Yet it is the most accurate measure of chances we have and far better than stupid ‘shots’ stats that the uneducated OP is highlighting.

xG is probably a fair reflection of today’s game as we had the better chances but overall it was pretty level and a draw would have been the ‘fair’ result. xG on its own is just an observation measure but over a period of time you can extrapolate it and future predict results well.

I thought that but from the OP: 785/(785+289) is 74%.

So we actually had 26% possession?

I won't accept xG as a stat until I know who's doing the expecting. It's absolutely no surprise to me to see Bergwijn fail to score because he's not that good at football and Allison is.

Liverpool played some superb stuff last night.
Thank god we are once again here to save football.

The expecting is from looking at thousands of matches and using the data to see how often goals are scored in different scenario.

So if something has an xg of 0.7 then it means thay70% of similar chances in the past were scored.

Why does the xG matter who is taking it. It effects no other statistic.
