Breaking news...

Arsenal have opened contract talks with one of our highly-performing players...

Rob Holding's current deal runs until the summer of 2023, but the Gunners want to extend it... You guys have seen how serious we are as a team?

The same Holding almost went to Newcastle on loan in the summer... But miraculously, his "great performance" has convinced the board to extend his contracts. This is why I have issues with Arsenal board. Why extending contract of a player virtually nobody wanted to take on loan except Newcastle?

Now if we extend his contract, we will probably increase his salary too and this will make it difficult to get buyers for him just like Sokratis and the rest!

Holding is a solid player. Not sure why all the fuss.

Lol he’s trash

Holding is not trash. He's middling of the road defender that a club needs to fill in occasion.

Trust Arsenal to extend the contract of a player who is not performing (i have nightmares of him backing away from attackers from 30 yards outside our box all the way into the box) and whom many feel should not be starting games.

Then again..we did offer Mustafi a new contract. The punk rejected us. We are being bantered by Mustafi!

I always thought he should be tried in midfield.

Then he’d be a “Holding” midfielder

Jenius is right.

The knee jerk reaction is to go ballistic given our current situation and history with giving contracts out like confetti but Holding is fine to keep as a squad player given that Mustafi is leaving, it will leave us short of right sided CB's.

So long as the plan is not for him to be part of our 1st XI I'm ok with it, with his contract running in to its last two years if we do want to sell him we'll get more for him if he's on a longer contract.

Unless my mind is playing tricks on me Holding is still recovering from a bad injury, hopefully he can regain a bit more pace again over the next 6 months. The other thing is that he tends to save his best performances for big games, the match against United last season where he got injured and an FA Cup final we won spring to mind.

Big game players are good to have in your squad, how many times do we find ourselves missing starters for big games.

This seems fine to me provided he’s on sensible wages. We need to prioritise spending on Midfield for now, so this seems a pragmatic move to me. Say we let his contract run out, how much would it cost to bring in a replacement of equal or better quality? Seems sensible to extend

He has 2.5 years left on his contract. I'd wait until at least the summer at the VERY earliest to even look at his contract. This seems well premature.

Is it not sensible though to see if we can renew, but if he asks for too much then we have the opportunity to sell in the summer whilst he still has some value
