So another couple of misses last night and the drought continues. Now I'm not bothered what Frank says it's clear to see the guys not a winger so I can put some of his struggles down to playing out wide. Similarly new country, new league etc but the chances he's missing, for a top striker should be going in. The big positive for me is that he's getting into position game after game and I'm really hoping when he finally does score his confidence returns that these misses start turning into goals. I guess my big question is, is he just down on his confidence or not as clinical as we had hoped/imagined?

He’s younger than I realised at age 24

I watched your game last night and thought he was poor. It wasn't just the finishing, but his general sloppiness.

The key for me is that almost every game he is getting two good chances. That suggests to me that the position he is playing is fine and that his pace andmovement is also fine.
The problem is his finishing and sometimes his passing. If he can sort that out we have one hell of a player on our hands. If he can't, then we bought a dus.

Currently an awful player.
I don’t care that he’s playing out wide, I’m not expecting him to dribble past 3 like robben and put it top bins but the failure to control a football and pass it 5 yards is unforgivable.
He missed several chances lastnight, including the cross from Tammy in which he just fell over.
One of the technically poorest players I’ve seen.

He's very adept at playing from the left
______________
As a striker/inside forward, not as a winger

Where is all his chances were. And he missed them all. Twice decent crosses into the 6 yard box and he didn’t gamble.

I feel like we haven’t prepared for his arrival. We knew the guy was coming since January. All his weaknesses we are seeing are basically already known. We know he scored so many goals for Leipzig for 5 seasons playing in a very specific system; up front in a two with a target man, in a counter attacking team. It’s hard to assess but it’s like there was a bit of naivety about how he’d fit into the side. Like we just saw this guy scoring lots of goals, signed him, stuck him straight into the side with no adaptations or thoughts about how he’d fit in, that because he’s a striker scoring goals for Leipzig he’d do the same for us.

Exactly the same with Havertz. We had money to spend and realised other teams didn't this summer. Just picked some players who are obviously talented with a lot of hype and hoped they'd find a way to fit in somehow. Like the people in charge are playing FIFA.
And you know what, they might make it work and they might be able to adapt. They're both young and talented. But so far there's been a struggle for various reasons that boil down to not knowing how to get the best out of them without compromising the rest of the team.
Compare to Liverpool who base their recruitment on finding players who are suited to how Klopp wants to set his team up, like Jota.

There was a pattern in the recruitment that encouraged the idea of playing a very fluid 4-2-3-1. Players like Ziyech, Werner & Havertz have all proven to work at their previous clubs in more than one position. Problem is Lampard can't find balance in that system or any system other than 433 yet - give this squad to someone like Pochettino (who knows how to build a fluid 4231) and the strategy behind the recruitment would look more clear I'd imagine. Was Lampard running before he could walk in a squad building sense.
