So Messi just beat Pele's record for most goals at one club and I read an interesting tweet from big ears Lineker.
Basically to beat the record someone needs to average 43 goals a season, for 15 years ..... wow.
In the PL we hold Kane, Salah etc up there as the best of the best, regarding the pinacle of what our league has to offer, but stats like this make you realise how Messi is just a different class. Them numbers are just silly.
Incredible player. Incredible record. Is it fair to say no one will come close to that in the modern game?
Messi record- will it ever be broken?

Never in the PL. You just can't hit those sort of numbers in one season let alone 15 in a row. Look at Ronaldo's stats. No way did he double as a player in just 2 years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was roughly getting a goal a game in his penultimate season at United, the signs were always there
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Numbers which are still miles behind what he did at Real plus he dipped down for a season did he but was pretty consistent 50-60 while at Real. Ok sorry but there are clearly more teams who put up a fight in the PL and much rarer to get high scoring games
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How is getting a goal a game ‘miles behind’ what he was doing at Madrid, that’s not even possible as he basically got a goal a game at Madrid.

Is he 16 though? Players from Africa tend to either lie or not actually know their real age. He could easily be 23 already. Just look at Yakubu, Martins, Okocha, Kanu etc. etc. All between 5 and 10 years older than they said according to reports.
=========
So they played deep into their 40s at a top level? Wow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hardly. Most of them had a good couple of years then declined massively. Making it seem that they arrived at their peak of around 28-30.
JayJay looked great for ages, at Bolton...
Anyone remember Taribo West, Arrived at Derby at supposedly 26. Looked about 36 and was awfully slow.
"The use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was introduced by Fifa in 2009 for the Under-17 World Cup in Nigeria to help work out whether players were over age or not.
Football's world governing body had been researching its use from 2003 and results from Under-17 World Cups in 2003, 2005 and 2007 revealed up to 35% of players were over age.
Dr Yacine Zerguini, member of the Fifa and Caf medical committees, said at the time: "We know that it is not generally bad intention or purpose if players are biologically above 17 years."
It is a thing around the ages. Not intentional on the most part, but most definitely happens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You name about 5 anecdotes of Nigerian players 20-30 years older than Cameroonian-born Mokoko, aka a completely different generation as evidence that ‘all African players tend to either lie about their age or not know what age they are’. Your anecdotes are literally that they just look older than they are, so must be 5-10 years older, even though it’s been rightfully brought up that that literally doesn’t make sense as most of them have continued playing at a high level to their late thirties.

His highest with Utd was 42 and highest at Real was 61

I know but it’s the fact he’s scoring a goal a game at United that season. If he happened to have played 60 games he probably would have got around 60 goals

But at Real his number of games didn't increase. He just scored more. Don't get me wrong, the pair of them are incredible and better than anything the prem has to offer but I really doubt they'd be hitting the sort of numbers they do in the PL. Just look at their CL stats which are much more comparable to other top strikers.

Which PL strikers would those be then?

look all records can be broken.
messi just set one and someone someday might well break it but they will in all.likelyhood have to play for one of the biggest teams as money talks.
messi on half a.mil a week to stay where he is after all.
its about hunger, staying power and genius.

Shall I answer that for you, then?
Of all of the players with a significant enough number of CL goals (top 50), only RVN has comparable stats.
Kane might possibly get there, but his sample size for the time being is ridiculously small (24 games vs 147 and 174)
Messi 0.8 gpg
Ronaldo 0.77 gpg (roughly 1 gpg in his time at Madrid)
RvN 0.77
Agüero 0.55
Drogba 0.48
Salah 0.46
Henry 0.45
RvP 0.42
Rooney 0.35
So, RvN aside, you'd be better off looking at which PL forwards can boast a CL strike rate comparable to Benzema's 0.55!

Most goals per game by league:
1. Bundesliga
2. PL
3. Serie A
4. La Liga
5. Ligue 1
Messi has scored 26 goals in 34 appearances against English teams (This is playing against the 4 best teams in England).
So playing exclusively against the best teams in England, he can almost get 30 a season.
Imagine him playing in the City side that was smashing the fodder 6-0 every week.
But ignoring that, Blackpool, Huddersfield and Wigan would be far too scary and he'd break his own legs just to avoid it. We will all remember these great PL defences. The Boltons, the Birminghams. They will go down as the legendary defences of our era (when mentioning Messi)

I have genuine feelings for you
