2020... a rubbish year... yadda yadda yadda...
However, through all the doom and Willian there have been some bright spots, even for us entitled Arsenal nobbers.
Here's the five I can remember:
ANOTHER FA Cup win!
A great performance, and much deserved victory, in the Final over a decent Chelsea side brought a record-breaking lifting, not to mention dropping, of The Football Association Challenge Cup. Without question the highpoint of our year, made all the more memorable by a fantastic winner from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Emi Martinez’s tears at the final whistle. Ahh, dear Emi, never leave us.
Bukayo Saka
He and his agent might’ve made us wait, and fret, and moan and cry (c'mon, admit it) but it came as a huge relief when his new long-term contract was finally announced by the club in July. Surprisingly overlooked for the Cup Final, Saka's form so far this season has been the one shining light in a period darker than Mikel Arteta’s immaculately coiffured barnet. And yes, Jack, he DID facking mean it!
Manchester United 0:1 Arsenal
Having waited almost 400 years to secure an away victory over one of our traditional ‘Big 6 Rivals', for the team to then apparently try their best to put as much distance between us and them, in the most 2020 of ways possible, was an irony not lost on many. Nevertheless, a weight lifted. And how about that Thomas Partey bloke, eh? Arsenal legend.
Arsenal 3:1 Chelsea
What. A. Facking. Relief. We actually finished a match with eleven players on the pitch! The 3pts were very welcome too after another victory over a much fancied Chelsea team - again, the scoreline flattering them, rather than us. ‘Can we play you every week?’ Arteta cried! ‘As long as you keep taking our shiiite players off us, sure.’ Lampard shrugged.
(Some of) the kids are better than alright!
The reintroduction, post long term injury, of Gabriel Martinelli reminded us all what we’ve been missing, and was something to be truly excited about. The possibility of him becoming more LaNS this season than any that have LaNS’ed before an added bonus.
With Emile Smith Rowe showing this week he too can do it on a slightly inclement Tuesday evening in Brighton, there's cause for optimism that the days of us relying on signing past their prime loafers, looking for one last pay day before retiring, could finally be behind us.
What’s that… AFC Bell reckons we're in for Isco?
Oh.
Ahh whatever, here's to 2021, guys!
Arsenal FC: Highlights 2020

Decent year. Unfortunately overshadowed by Covid, an awful start to the 2020/21 season, and worst of all, the signing of Willian Borges Da Silva.
Wishing you an infinitely happier 2021 Lex

True, Gillespie, and that almost made the top 5. But I decided to keep my choices more Arsenal focussed.
Good shout though.

With lots of deadwood going out of the door this summer, 2021 might even be better.

Yeah, Edu off to a good start this window by the looks, IAWT (?)
Happy New Year to you too!

Although he's been out of form and I've been a big critic, getting Aubameyang to commit was one of the big highlights for 2020. Certainly towards the end of last season everyone expected him to move on and leave us for nothing.
Hopefully it doesn't turn out similar to Özil. Auba needs to earn his way back into the side and into form now - otherwise we may have to capitalise while we can still command a fee.

Ron
Had he not been so out of sorts so far this season, we might not have got to the point where the win over Chelsea made my highlights of the year.
Otherwise, for sure his contract extension would be up there. I was so happy when he signed it!

Yep
Still not fully convinced by Edu tbh. He can't really distance himself from the Willian and Cedric disaster but Kola going on loan is a good start.

On the theme of contracts...getting Martinelli to a new long term contract was also really great. Maybe not as high a highlight as the above, bit a highlight nonetheless.
