Comfortable at the back, controlled midfield, should have scored more. The game was won as soon as Merino scored and it was a stroll from then on.

How do you control the midfield with 41% overall possession.
We sat deep in the second half and invited them unto us.
Chelsea were awful and should not be our barometer. We are in the quarter finals of the champion league. A performance like that will see us humiliated over the two legs.

You answered your own question there. We let them have the ball in non dangerous areas and when we needed to win it back we did. You don't need the ball to have control...
It is funny seeing someone think one game dictates a completely different one. When we played Real at the Bernabeu in 06 we were in dreadful league form and Real were full of superstars. Did we play Real in the same manner as we played Bolton a few days earlier??

I didn't feel we sat that deep at all. We weren't full on high pressing but we were hardly pinned in our box either. It was pretty easy tbh.

If we beat Real Madrid 1-0 at home with a scrappy performance and do it again in the 2nd leg. I'd happily take that now.

Chelsea had their fewest attempts on goal as well as fewest touches in opp. box all season as per Sky.

But we won’t. It will have to be the performance of our lives over the two legs.
Partey will have to jog less and get across the pitch more dynamically or Belligham will swamp him. Trousaard cannot afford his lose touches and passes and our defenders will have to hold their nerves.

We need defensive master class to have chance against Real.
I would play like we played against City last season at Etihad when we play away in Madrid.
However, to do that we must somehow win at home by at least 2 goal margin. Atrocious things have happened in football.
Knowing Pool are out, we can beat other CL teams over 2 legs tbh. Pool would be most difficult to beat amongst current set of teams which are left in CL.

They had the ball in our half for long periods in the second half. A better team should have hurt us with that amount of possession and territory.

So, basically, we kept Chelsea at arms length without breaking sweat? A controlled performance where 1 goal always looked enough.

If we were playing a better team - we would have played differently - with chelsea - we did what was needed to get a win - and came out hopefully with no injuries
