Farewell to a flawed and classy player. My dad's favourite of that era. He was the foremost player in his position at that time and but for his involvement in the 1964 betting scandal (not mentioned specifically in the club obituary) he would have gone on to become a national hero - a shoe-in for the 1966 World Cup.
Can understand to some extent it not being mentioned in his obit, but it is in history for all to see. Nevertheless,

Good friend of mine ( now deceased) ,Ian May played for Ipswich in that game and said that Swan kicked him for 90 minutes and there was no way he threw the game.

I remember my Dad being devastated at the time. He said that Swany was the best and that if he had carried on playing, a certain long legged L**ds defender would never have made the England squad for the 1966 World Cup. C'est la vie . . .
