AMN to West Brom on loan
Willock to Newcastle on loan
Sokratis gone to Olympiakos
Kolasinac to Schalke
Saliba to Nice on loan
Matt Macey to Hibs
In

I would give 7 out of 10

No transfer fees for outgoing players
Weakened ourselves with the loss of AMN
Forced a talented youngster back to France
All the players that were paid off should have been released in the Summer. I said this at the time and was ridiculed for it. Don’t understand all the stuff about Edu deserving credit for paying players to leave

We didn’t really have a choice but to let them go for free, no club wanted to pay anything for them. Think it’s good that they’re just finally gone and we can have a more positive atmosphere at the club. But the club does need to learn lessons from this, can’t get ourselves into having average overpaid players stuck at the club. Don’t ever want to be in a situation where you’re paying players to leave again, but in this instance there wasn’t much more edu could have done
Window wasn’t bad given the circumstances, odegaard and Ryan will be useful additions and the players leaving all needed to go and or get games. My only concern is now Niles is gone, we lack LB cover. Saliba is bit of a worry, but if he comes back happier and we integrate him properly in squad with less CBs at the club then him going on loan may make sense. We’ll have to wait and see

Ripping up a contract is something a club does once in a blue moon. A player getting convicted for a criminal offence. A career-ending injury or illness. Or some other drastic reason.
We have now turned it into everyday club policy. We have now sent out the message that our negotiators are no longer fit for purpose.
Every club all over the world now knows that they can get our players for practically nothing. Every single one of our players now knows that they can engineer a "situation" and then simply walk out the front door for nothing more than a packet of crisps.
It won't be long before we start having 4-5 of our players driving over to their intended club of choice on deadline-day and trying to do a "Peter Odemwingie".
Nothing about this transfer window is OK.

We paid them less than was left on their contracts so we've saved a bit of money, not much but a few million for Ozil, Sokratis, Mustafi.

that’s why I gave it a 4 and not a 0 like Gillespie road has done.
What I will say in the clubs defence is that these are unprecedented times and they just couldn’t afford to keep hold of these players any longer and didn’t really have a choice but to let them go. Schalke and Fener have covered part of the wages/loyalty fees of Ozil, Kola and Mustafi so at least they haven’t paid these guys respective contracts in their entirety.
I don’t think we will be the only club doing this either, I heard last night that United have done or at least plan do to the same with Rojo for example

The proof of this window will more likely come in summer. Are those freed wages going to translate into new signings? Are the players we've loaned, Ødegaard and Ryan, going to be successful and sign permanently? Will the likes of Willock and AMN come back stronger for their loan moves away? Is cutting out Özil's clique going to improve squad morale and performance?
It's far too early to judge the window, but there is a lot of potential in it.

Maybe a solid 6 or 6.5.
Glad the deadwood is gone. Not happy that we did not shift Mustafi and Sokratis in the summer using the same means (negotiating a payoff earlier). Also...we need a left back and surely a small fee for either Bertrand or Van Aanholt would have been accepted over those players being free to leave in 5 months for nothing. I dont like Cedric being cover for LB as I think he should be our starting RB.
But looking forward to transfers in the summer. Looks like Arteta has done a great job shedding players he does not want. Hopefully he now gets players he does want and hoping he is not as blind as he was regarding Willian

These guys were walking away on a free in the summer anyway so we would never have got a transfer fee. What we did do is probably save around 20Mil in wages.
Think all these guys wages combined were like 800k per week which is a massive saving for a broke club like us.

The current administration had to do this to correct the huge screw ups of the previous regimes. Can't blame Edu and his team for most of that.
Also, I think this kind of practice will become less rare generally after the Covid situation putting the squeeze on the finances of all clubs. Not many clubs can afford to pay ridiculous money to players who aren't even in the squad so they'll have to come up with creative ways to shift these guys off the wage bill. Admittedly we always do these things to the extreme.
