Southampton lose 9-0 again!!!

After losing to us by the same score last season Southampton have lost 9-0 again - on Groundhog Day!

I actually feel a bit sorry for their fans. Those sort of defeats are painful.

I still remember Sheffield Wednesday putting 7 past us in a league cup game and Portsmouth 6 when we were near the bottom of the Championship. Dark days indeed.

I remember singing “you’re not singing anymore” in that Newcastle game when we scored (despite still being 6-1 down I think).

They were confirmed automatic and us in the play-off already if I remember correctly. I may not remember so stand ready to be corrected!

I remember that game. We were 6-0 down at half time. It wasn't that we were awful but Newcastle were brilliant in that first half. One touch football - they would have beaten anybody that day. I seem to remember we had the reserve goalkeeper playing. Struggling to remember his name though.

One thing I did think when we beat them 0-9- Saints were in a bad spell of form at the time but the owners did not make a knee-jerk reaction and sack the manager. They subsequently went on to recover and do really well. How many more managers may have turned things around if they had been given more time- even Lampard, perhaps.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well pointed out. That just about sums it all up nowadays. How many times might Matt Gillies have been sacked on the back of some of those 5 and 6 goal heavy defeats all those years ago? I remember a good few of them. It won’t be long before we hear about and see a photograph of another embattled manager whose team just got hammered.

“Ooh he’s under pressure now”. Same old.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think he deserves a chance to turn it around as they are desperately out of form and are suffering from a heck of a lot of injuries.

I think the worry is that the club have let go of players that could have filled the squad, especially in full back areas as they have loaned out their two back up full backs. Not only that, but this is now their second 9-0 defeat in as many seasons, so how do the team recover from that? Hassenhuttl still has a lot to answer to.

Not Kevin. He was first choice. Carl Muggleton.

I think we’ve already been following Ings and there were several reports suggesting we were planning a bid prior to last night. I think we’ll definitely, at the very least, enquire but it will depend on whether we get top 4 and how crazy Southampton will be with an asking price. He’s also 29 this year which may be a concern. I’d definitely have him and could see him linking up well with Barnes and Maddison

Have a feeling that Newcastle game was the Swindon play off final year

Ah the Swindon game - probably the highest highs and lowest lows I’ve felt during one game.

That Thomson equaliser still makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

I’d been going for a couple of years prior with my Dad (I just assumed we always went to Wembley for several seasons) but that was the game that had me absolutely hooked and fanatically about Leicester City. The emotional and physical pain when they got that penalty
