Worst title defence ever?

With Liverpool on the ropes and ravaged by injuries throughout the squad (see my caffeine doping exclusive from months ago) questions over Klopp and the advanced years of their fab three, have the wheels finally fallen off?

Liverpool have been electric for well over three years now and you would have expected them to have achieved more in that time, a Champions League and League title aren't to be scoffed at, a Club World Cup however is as it's just a FIFA dignitaries cup to wine and dine corporate sponsors. From an available 12 trophies the creaming and drooling of the past 3 years should have more but alas I'm diverting...

With Liverpool's next run of fixtures including Leicester, Everton, Sheffield United, Fulham, Chelsea, Wolves and Arsenal could the reigning champions be out of the top half?

With rumours abound that the Nike deal and all its riches are dependent upon Champions League qualification, the extreme wage levels to income ratio, the itchy feet of footballers, is it safe to say that the cataclysmic title defence is just the start of serial decline for the reds? If this is the case, how will the Surrey flag wavers deal with a moot trophy parade when the title has already been awarded and new champions crowned with the likely full lockdown and normality not likely to occur until late summer?

That is nothing to do with Ole though. It's still majority LVG and Jose's team.

He needs another 2 years before he can be expected to win trophies.. it's a long process.

The Glazers must love you, you're practically their free marketing team!

Didn't Klopp say at the start of the season that Liverpool weren't going to defend the title, they were going to attack it instead.

Klopp has been shown up for what he is this season: A fraudulent chequebook manager.

I've always said he's a pretty poor tactician and is more of a Mr Motivator, in the mould of someone like a Harry Redknapp. The difference is he's backed by huge money and gets more luck.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So he is a chequebook manager that has managed to outperform the size of the chequebook?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Klopp was going nowhere fast until he started spending silly money. Where was he before VVD, Fabinho, Alisson etc?? Scraping top 4.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That wasn't silly money, that was smart money. Silly money is, for example, £80m for Harry facking Maguire.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The same Harry Maguire that would walk straight into your team right now and be your best CB??

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, Harry Maguire would probably be better than our 5th choice CB.

Not sure that is quite the zinger you thought it was.

This thread has nothing to do with United or OGS.

Could you imagine Real Madrid fans accepting Solskjaer as manager and a captain with 4 relegations to his name let alone defending them as aggressively as Culer does.

For such a huge club United don't half have some fans with their expectations in the gutter!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well bearing in mind we finished 33 points behind Liverpool last season and currently sit 5 points ahead he must be on the right track, unless Klopp has completely lost whatever he had that is

This season proves Firmino isn’t world class. A striker or forward who can’t score enough goals is not world class. World class forward who plays in false 9 role should be like Messi, Kane this season and Benzema not Firmino. He’s been terrible for missing too many chances. I think they need new number 9 next season and turn Firmino into no 10 or backup no 9.

And also Klopp really gambled on his centre back when he decided to sell Lovren without replacement. Matip is injury prone, while prior 19/20 season, Gómez also had poor injury record. Not much of depth quality in their defense too.

I doubt it tbh. Fully expect us to finish the season strongly in fact.

He's completely lost the centre backs that he had to be fair.

Leicester, United under Moyes, Chelsea 15/16.

All worse title defences.

After 23 games this Liverpool team actually has the same number of points as Moyes' United did at the same stage.
