I guess it all depends on the grading of the injury and the type of surgery. Rodgers has suggested it will be around the same or less that Ricardo’s so I’d be surprised if it was a full rupture and graft but even basic ACL ligament surgery is significant. I think Autumn will probably be his projected window but mentally, with our season and Europe and potentially England, he must be completely devastated. Let’s make sure we get top 4 for Justin so he has CL football to motivate him. There’s also the benefit of him being young and you can never truly predict too much until post surgery 🤞🏼

Devastating for us and obviously the player, just as we were getting all the defenders back we’ve had Castagne, Fofana and Justin all out again really annoying

Thomas is a very able replacement Tomkins but he’s inexperienced and nowhere near the level of Justin who was our best player this season.

Really sad news, I don't blame Brendan - it could have happened in any match or training, just unlucky.

I do wonder what Thomas's path would have been if not for injury crises over the last 8 months. They must have seen something in him to throw him in at the end of last season, even if we were out of first team alternatives, and he looks raw but with potential. But looking at what happens to most of our young players - even Harvey Barnes went out on loan before breaking through into the first team - I always wonder whether Thomas has benefitted from being drafted into the first team or whether he's suffered from not getting the chance to go out on loan to learn his craft in adult football at lower levels. The answer may be a combination of the two.

From what I've read about him, I'm encouraged. He seems down to earth and very much focussed on not letting the team down. I'm pretty much certain that Rodgers will throw him back into the fray tomorrow, although whether he's given an outright left back spot or whether he's afforded the protection of being the wing back in a back 5, we'll have to see. I think the key for him will be Rodgers making sure he doesn't get into a pattern of poor performances that could hurt him. But with the sheer number of games coming up, I can't see Ricardo and Castagne playing all of them - even if they both manage to stay fit after Castagne's return. So someone will have to stand in, preferably on the left.
